You don't need a passport, if you have proof of U.S. citizenship issued by U.S. authorities
(e.g. birth certificate, naturalization papers, expired
U.S. passport) to nationals of the U.S.A. entering from
the Western Hemisphere
Children, up to/incl. 15 years, are allowed to travel on
their parent's passport, provided they are identified in
the passport.
Passports of nationals of the u.s.a. must be valid on the
date of arrival in the u.s.a.
Minors travelling to Canada from USA:
Parent(s) travelling with a child under 18 years are
strongly advised to hold documentation containing evidence
that the child is theirs. Parents who are separated or
divorced are advised to keep legal and other relevant
documents available, in order to clarify custody rights.
All children irrespective of nationality travelling alone or
with adults that have no legal custody over them, are also
strongly advised to hold a letter of travel consent signed
by a legal guardian or parent with legal custody,
containing:
- authorisation to travel (with another person, when
applicable) and to be outside the country;
- destination in Canada, also indicating length of stay:
- the signor's address and phone details. |

No, a passport is not currently required. You must have the birth certificate. The people who said that if both parents are not in the car, you need a letter granting permission are correct. My husband's cousin got stopped at the border because she was traveling with her two kids but not her husband.
Passport requirements will be changing in the future. See this website for updates: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html |

Assuming you are going to Canada from the US, you do not need passports, but you do need birth certificates for everyone. |

An infant doesn't need a passport, but does need a birth certificate. Are BOTH parents travelling with the infant? If only one is, then that one must have a notarized statement from the other parent that they have permission to take the child out of the country.
This is a rule that has been enforced between both the US and Canada, to prevent victims of kidnapping or child abduction (especially in the case of divorced or estranged parents) from being taken across the border without the consent of the other parent.
Other than that, there are no special requirements for traveling with an infant.
Enjoy your visit! |

you will need asigned statement granting permission, from both parents, and a birth certificate. They are tring to stop people from abducting children. |

It is my understanding that all you will need is a birth certificate until the end of this year when we will all need to have passports. |
