Does the water still fall over Niagara Falls as always in the Summertime?

I know it is frozen over during the Winter but seem to have heard that there are no longer falls the rest of the year.

No that is far from the truth. It still throws an incredible amount of water over both sets of falls. The edge of the cliffs that the water goes down erodes back a little each year but the water is still coming.

perplexed
Yes it still falls. Where would it go? There would be terrible flooding above the falls. The water still flows underneath the ice.

margarita
Yes the water still flows spring, summer, winter and fall. It does not completely freeze over during the winter. The water is constantly moving and providing power for millions of consumers.

shadedwite
Yeah when there are not too many tourists they shut it down and then fold it away neatly!

Joanna T
nope in the winter, they close it down because theres not as many tourists, sorry to tell you this but they accually have a little button that says on and off for Niagra falls, and yes that technology is on the US side!! lol

They are telling you a joke. The falls are running night and day.The ice flows over the falls and when it is cold long enough it forms an ice bridge at the bottom of the river. Just a little joke of my own. the coins don,t fall out of the slot machines anymore all is converted into paper prints to collect your money. No more loud money drops that you could hear. Maybe your Buddy's meant that noise is missing in the falls.

littlecanadians
yes the water continues to fall....however they can control the amount of water that flows over the falls. It has something to do with the hydro plant that runs off it and the dams they control. However you won't notice the difference high volume or low.
