Your friend sounds like a goof. Even if he doesn't agree with the US government (and who does, by the way) it doesn't mean that the American people or the country itself are not worth visiting.

The US is very much worth the visit.

Your friend's political views are his own business. Unless you have informed yourself of the facts and have come to the same conclusions, you need to disregard what he is saying to you.

Your friend has NO RIGHT to hold your friendship to ransom over something that he personally believes. Everyone has differing viewpoints, but real friends accept those differences. Real friends do not blackmail.

Your friend is a liar. Indians are allowed into the USA and there is a lot of immigrants from India who live in the USA, especially in the Maryland - DC - Northern Virginia area. Anyone is welcome to immigrate / visit the USA as long as they do it legally.

Your friend is probably one of those teenagers who thinks he knows everything about how the world works by watching a conspiracy video on You Tube. If he said he won't be your friend simply because you're going to visit the US, he's an idiot and isn't worth your time.

Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. Your friend general towards the USA sucks. and he is lying to that Indians are not allowed here. Come on down with your parents hav lots of fun and when you return let him know you had a great time. Who cares to have a friend like that anyways...

If your friend can't like you for who you are, then he/she is no friend of yours. It sounds like he is very closed-minded. Open-minded people embrace all cultures and all aspects of people for their general goodness.
Another thing - remind your friend that every time they pick up the telephone, he/she has an American to thank for inventing it.

Don't give into to your "friend's" blackmail. They have no right to hold your friendship hostage because you are going on a family holiday and you should tell them that as some of the other posters have said. DC can be a little dull (very dull) for young people with all the musiums and things, (I like that stuff so I had a blast when I went there). Enjoy your time with your family because soon enough you will be out on your own and have a good trip to DC and safe home.

BTW bring your friend something back make them feel like crap for being such a jerk. :)

Your friend if full of crap is what he is. What does he mean Indians aren't allowed in the US? That's the stupidist thing I've ever heard of. He's wrong on all accounts, the USA isn't evil. Indians are allowed ofcourse into the US as we have large communties of Indians living already in the US. ESPECIALLY in places such as Maryland, Washington DC itself, New Jersey, New York, etc.

He just sounds like he's either either really misinformed or he just doesn't like America in general for some reason. It has to do whatever screwed up politics he's into but NO! you're not a bad person. Go where you want to go and while in Washington D.C. have fun!

Although you have Indian Ancestry, you are a Canadian Citizen. Even your dad who was born in India - if he is living and working in Canada probably is a Canadian Citizen by now. It is more work to get into the US as a Indian Citizen than a Canadian Citizen, but not allowed in is exaggerating.

You are not a bad person. If your friend is a real political activist he would see that your trip is a good time to go and see how the average American is like and change their opinions one voter at a time. To say all the US is evil is racist. Americans your age didn't vote for the people who do bad things, a lot of Americans your age don't even know some of the bad things their country does. If you have a chance to meet them and find out who they are, and make friends and try to let them know how your friends back home feel about Americans and why, you are making a better world.

Talk to your friend and let them know you feel they are being unreasonable. And that you would like some more information on their opinion so you can be convincing in a conversation while in Washington.
