I want to get front row tickets to the Depeche Mode concert on July 24th in Toronto, Canada at the Molson Amphitheater. Tickets go on sale March 13th. Can I get front row tickets online at www....
No, not really. Being a constitutional monarchy is just fine. It retains all the historical elements that this country had before becoming what is now known as Canada, the distinguishing bits after nationhood and the modern autonomy we currently enjoy. The best of all worlds.
You said it yourself ,"The Queen is a remembrance of the colonial past". We had that past, we were a colony and then a Dominion, you can't rewrite it. You can't take that out of the history books either. What's wrong with remembering the past? It's what made our future and still is.
It's not like HRH is just going to up and take away our constitution.

What, and end up with election campaign circuses like the US?
No thank you.

with the constitutiional changes in 1982 the queen has not even nominal control or ability to control our government or the constititution in Canada. So in that way the deletion of the monarchy would have no real impact on the function of government as it is here. She remains a figurehead of the old commonwealth club which we would give up too although that one hasnt done much lately admittedly and with stars like Zimbabwai, South Africa and Kenya.... what a club! There are a few diehards older Canadians especially of British ancestary who might feel alienated by the move but most wouldnt be inclined to flee back to merry ole england even at that. Canada has virtually no costs involved in her or her crazy families maintainanece except official state visits of course so in that sense we have a bargain. How much does the queen mean to ordinary Canadians... quite a lot to those of us growing up here forced to sing "God Save" every morning in all Public schools along with the Lords Prayer in the mid-late 60s and before. She represents some stability to older generations having been on the throne for the past 40 years or whatever. Newer immigrants.. save the Indians and Brits, most south asians and chinese and even younger egenrations from here wouldnt really get the whole Brit/ allegiance to the empire monarchy thing so its surely dying as time as generations change,.
I have respect for Elizabeth but beyond that.. its done for me... even Prince William as nice a kid he maybe but its so out of reality, lala land and really just "celeb world" taken to the nth degree. They hold no real power there or here aside from charles sniggering from the sidelines every once in a while about heritage buildings and organic farming their irrelevant there to. England is probably not ready to abolish them forever (what a hit to their tourism) but yes probably Canada should ...not tomorrow....but with Queen's passing or abdication to Charles or William... yes we should. /.

Of course I do. The Queen is nothing. I agree with the Republic of Canada.

It's not a simple process. The Americans turfed the monarchy centuries ago and they still have one of the Queen's relatives running the place. Some might even say that he got the job because he is a direct descendant of a previous ruler.
Hello
Why not? We're much closer to the US than Britain these days anyway. Besides, if we did ditch the monarchy, I doubt anyone in Britain would even notice - let alone care.
