Unlike the others may I suggest that you find yourself a skid school. As someone said we get used to it and it is almost a right of passage for any Canadian teenager to take the family car into a mall parking lot and do spins in the snow. We also have a thing called black ice where there is a thin coating of ice on the road surface and it gets VERY slippery.

So if you are coming over here to drive in the winter a skid school is a good idea for a new bee to the joys of Canada. Bundle up !

Well if you are coming here this time of year, you don't need to worry about it. In the winter, just remember to slow down and leave lots of room for breaking!

I'm an Aussie living in Canada and the first time driving in snow is a little hairy.
make sure you have good snow tyre's,keep extra room between you and the car in front, take things easy and you will be fine

it takes some getting used to
Have good winter tires and take it slow.
I guess we get used to it because we live here.
Any car will do, but I love the 4 wheel drive on my truck when the snow is falling.

Welcome to Canada.

It depends where you're going to be in Canada. True that Vancouver doesn't get much snow, but the Interior of BC gets alot.
Rear wheel drive car here is no good. The minimum you would need would be a front wheel drive with good winter tires.
Most people here have at least 1 4x4 in their family.
And yes, driving in the snow takes some getting used too. Driving is much slower, takes longer to stop.

MissPriss
It takes longer to stop than you think. That's about the only thing you need to remember. give yourself a little more room between you and the guy in front. Don't jump on the gas or the brake -- you may skid or fishtail and hit another car or some stationary object.

Slow and steady gets you out of heavily rutted snow.

Stay away from the polar bears, they move faster than you.

if you take your time and put snow tires on your car you will be fine, but don't try to rush, ever!!!

Andrew
You will probably need snow tires.. if you have those you should be good as long as you drive carefully

just get snow tires and you will be fine

Well I'm from Canada and frankly you don't need any special training to drive in the winter. Common sense prevails. Yes you can drive with any car. In light snow condition, good quality all-season tire will do fine. Read again, good condition and good quality all season tires. In heavy snow conditions or very slippery roads, winter tire are highly recommended.

It only snows between jan and march, rarely earlier (also depends on the city) and even then every one drives slow. If ur in BC, dont even worry about snow. You dont need to take any coarses. The main hazourd is that you might get pissed off at how slow everyone goes. A little fact, more accidents happen during summer.
