Speed patrols are really cranked up in Ontario for the summer holiday season, probably Michigan as well. FORGET about speeding!
Allow about 3 1/4 to 3 3/4 hours from Toronto to the border at Windsor, depending what part of Toronto you are starting from.
Head for the tunnel, the bridge is always jammed up with trucks but very few can handle the corkscrew ramp at the Detroit end of the tunnel. Be ready to wait up to 1 hour at the border, depending what time of what day you get there.
Once through, about 4 to 4 1/2 hours to Chicago, again depending just what part of Chicago you are heading for -- it's a big city!
And remember that's just driving time. Add time for your pit stops and snack breaks too! |

Factor in delays at border crossings (Canada to US).
Mapquest says: 8 hours, 21 minutes
Hope that helps! |

I drove in October london, on to Chicago and it took me about 5-6 hours and I was stopped twice by the police for speeding.. I got a warning both times, and it wasn't much over the speed limit.. So I am thinking fours hours is not enough time. |
