Driving to Canada...Do I need a passport?

Alright. I may go stay with my friend in Canada, for part of summer break. my school normally gets out around the end of May, or beginning of June. So, the trip will definately be in June, maybe July.
I'm 15 xp

So now that you know all that, Do I need a Passport to DRIVE to Canada?

And if so, when should I apply
How long should it take (rough estimation)
And how much will it cost.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

June of this year is the date when the rules change to requiring a passport to drive across the border. But as long as you are under 16 you can travel with your birth certificate. However if you are turning 16 anytime soon you need a passport. If you are turning 16, apply as soon as possible! They wanted to implement this change years ago, but long line ups for passport applications delayed it. Those line ups can happen again.

Oh, and at 15 you will also require a signed Letter of permission from both your parents stating when you are crossing the border, what adult you will be in the custody of, when you will be returning, and all the details of them and you like names, addresses, birth dates, and phone numbers. (And they might call your parent to confirm)

you will need passport with your itinerary. As of June,2009 all crossings by Land as well as air as now will require you have a passport. You will get into Canada okay but Homeland Security might not let you back into US aafter June,2009 without one!
Some border states are getting rfid tagged "smart licenses" which might be accepted in lieu of passport but dont count on it. Criminals will find away around that too and ruin it for the 99.9% who just want to shop, dine, buy and travel.

You actually need a passport to drive to Canada, since you are crossing the border. Also you need to bring your birth certificate. At the border they will ask you what your purpose is in Canada is and how long you will be staying, so make sure you know/have an idea of what your itinerary is.

You don't need a passport to drive in Canada....only a drivers license. But you will need one to cross the border or some other authorized ID.

You don't need a passport to drive in Canada, but you'll probably need one to re-enter the 'states.
