No but eh can have alot of purposes. There was a book by Mark Orkin ( very funny) called Canajain eh that explained the 7 uses of eh. I can only remember 4...maybe someone else will explain the others.

1. interogative , like how's it going eh?
2. a form of agreement , like we're going down the road eh, to Torana , eh . Or warm/cold enough for you eh?
3. as a conjunction
4. When you don't believe something being said it 's EH?

My mother hated it if my brother and I used eh,but after the Mackenzie brothers popularized it around the world, we've been stuck with it.

Pretty much, but it can be used in any sentence at beginning or the end. It's funny that you ask this because I was on the Tobermory ferry here in Canada and I met an American, we were talking for awhile about his 2 dogs etc and then he finally said "Wow, Canadians really do say "Eh" alot!" I laughed and said that yes it's true! but it's even funnier that I had never known or heard of how much Americans say "huh" and "Un-huh" but talking to him I noticed he used it every 3rd or 4th word.... lol he was a little taken aback but he said "Huh, I guess your right, both of us have certain words we always use when talking" and I said "True Eh! well each to his own!" ....lmao true story!

PS I thought I would add some more Canadian slang... Only in Canada..... I use many of these words on a daily basis especially Timmy Ho's and Crappy Tire...LMAO
Go here for some funny words only in Canada... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canadian_slang#Canadian_slang_words

?
Good day eh...not all Canadians...do all americans say duh every third word...eh.

Nah... just as not all Californians say "dude."

(But you have a bunch from both groups who use those words!)

Not every sentence but most :P

Goddess of Grammar
Well, no, a quarter of Canadians speak French (they say "ben" instead).

It's used a lot, for sure, but not at the end of every sentence, eh? Usually to ask for confirmation. Canadians can be insecure, eh? and seek compromise, eh.

not all the time

No way ya hoser!!!!!!

Not everyone. You could also ask if all Americans are rednecks, and you'd get the same result. Stereotypes mean that some people do it, but not everyone, but still other cultures generalize and apply it to everyone. Doesn't mean everyone does it.
