I am a swiss citizen and I am currently staying in Canada as a visitor. I am allowed to stay in the country up to 6 months without a visa. Now; I would like to visit Chicago during my stay and someone told me that I can enter the US only during the first tree months of my stay in canada - does anyone know if that's true? I've already surfed the web for an answer but can't find anything...
Thanks for any answers!

As a Swiss citizen you may travel to the United States visa waived for 90 days at any period regardless of your Canadian visa. If you plan to fly into the United States you would need an approval from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (ESTA) prior to your flight. The ESTA is not required for crossing the land border; you will just need to get a green form I-94W for a fee of $6.00 which must be filled and presented to the immigration officer. I have never heard of anything like that. As a Swiss citizen you are covered under the Visa Waiver Program. All you need to do is fill out ESTA. |

Not sure about the time limit but I think you also need to fill out a "registration form" to enter. Example, I'm Canadian and my girlfriend is Japanese and Japanese citizens have visa clearance to enter the US. BUT... they still need to fill out a form notifying the US authorities that she entered the country, then when she exits, she needs to return that form. We had to wait at the border to fill it out. |

"gomanye" is correct. You may visit the U.S. anytime. You just need to do the ESTA form. See site below. |

Sorry, but this is decision that has to be made by the US authorities, not the Canadian. If you contact a US consulate, they should be able to clear it up for you. |
