Your friend has no right to use your driving license.

So, is your friend driving without a licence or using your licence fraudulently?

If you get pulled over and traced you might not get out of the US. You are already driving without a licence in the US.

You can still get in with just your passport but if you are caught driving without your licence you will be subject to the applicable fines and penalties.

For what illegal activity does your friend need YOUR driver's licence when he has his own?

You will likely need your birth certificate as well as your passport.
Remember that in Canada you must have your driver's licence on your person. If you get stopped for any reason, and can't provide it, you will have to pay a minimum fine of $173. You may dispute such a fine, but that means having to go to court.

If you present a passport, it's extremely unlikely they will ask for any other ID. A passport covers just about everything as far as ID is concerned. I suppose they might ask for other ID, and then won't you look silly or suspicious. But you were very foolish to let your friend use your licence for any purpose at all. It's asking for trouble. You now have no driver's licence to show if you should be pulled over or be involved in an accident in any way. And if the worst happens, let's say your friend is injured and the ID they find on him is your driver's licence, it might be your parents who get the call with bad news about you. Stranger things have happened. If he gets in a bar fight and gets arrested and uses your ID, that could follow you around for a long time even if they do sort out who he really is.

Your passport is the be-all and end-all of identification...when you have that you need nothing else. The only problem is, you are DRIVING without your drivers license so you better drive very carefully. To cross the border, your passport is fine. See site below to see that you need either a passport OR photo I.D. and birth certificate.

You can get in with a passport but you should have your licence if you are driving. If you don't have it let your friend drive. How would you prove you even have a licence if you don't have it with you?
