lol why woud you need a passport while flying within Canada....it doesn't make sense does it? you are already in Canada and flying to another province and/or a city....however you need a government issued ID such as your driver's license and birth certicate etc

cheddler
No, but you do need identification like a driver's license or birth certificate. You only need a passport when going to another country that requires it, which is everywhere now that the USA requires it for people entering by plane.

I obtained the following information from the Transport Canada website relating to travel within Canada by air.

"Transport Canada has worked closely with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner in order to further strengthen the privacy provisions of the program. Implementation for flights within Canada and international flights to and from Canada will begin on June 18, 2007.

As of this date, new Identity Screening Regulations will require air passengers within Canada who appear to be 12 years of age or older to present one piece of government-issued photo identification (ID) that shows name, date of birth and gender or two pieces of government-issued ID - one of which shows name, date of birth and gender - before boarding an aircraft. The boarding pass provided by the air carrier must match the name on the ID.

Canadians will not need a passport for travel within Canada but rather can present a range of government-issued ID to the air carriers including a health card, a birth certificate, a driver's licence and a social insurance card. Current requirements for international travel will remain in place."

As stated in the article, passports are not required for travel within Canada but you have to have appropriate ID and it has to match the name on your boarding pass. So, if you are known under one first name but it is not your legal name, you must book your ticket in your legal name (i.e. some people are called by a "pet" name which is not similar to their legal name). I know a woman who uses a name that is not her legal name. Relatives started using this name when she was young and she now uses it regularly. However when flying she has to book under her legal name.

no cuz you're not crossing into any international boundaries. However, you will need to present a valid ID to board a plane.

You don't need a passport to fly within Canada, You must present a valid photo ID when you check in for your flight. Contrary to what others say, your passport is the best piece of ID you can carry when taking a flight anywhere. I use mine when I fly within Canada. I aslo use it to enter the US by car. Since your passport is linked to your ID database, it is absolutely the best and preferred ID to have when travelling.

not really. But for teh safe side you can bring along with you the passport and may be your citizenship card.

I have seen people use their passports for identification for domestic flights. All a passport is, is a document that says the government of this country acknowledges that you are a citizen of this country and that to the best of their knowledge you are who you say you are.

A neighbour who doesn't drive uses her passport for ID boarding a plane. Me I have a card from the government that says I'm Canadian because I choose to be one but I use the passport from my old country because if (God forbid) I ever get in to a sticky situation I'd reather have them try to get me out than the Canadian government! Just ask that young lad in Gitmo bay, or that man who was going to be executed by the Saudis.
