Vancouver is beautiful. Depending on what time of year you're visiting will really depend on things to do.

Don't use a tourist website, those are run by editors and filled with paid suggestions. Use a search engine for events. Check out Zvents. Links below (first is a search for things to do in Vancouver)

Grand pa answered pretty well, ignore the anti-Canada fella. A good tour is called the circle tour, leave Vancouver, go up the Sunshine Coast, to Powell River 5 hours, across another ferry to Vancouver Island, drive 3 hours to Victoria, then back to Vancouver - you won't regret it! Beautiful scenery, friendly people, lots of great places to stay as well.
Enjoy!

If you're coming soon, be prepared for lots of beautiful, refreshing, cold rain. Sorry mate, but can't control the weather. Stanley Park is the largest natural city park in North Am. Great aquarium there. Go for an all you can eat sushi lunch; most around $9.95 - $10.95. Granville Island is a great place to walk around for crafts, local produce and international eats. You've got to rent a car and drive, if not to Whistler, at least to the mid-way town of Squamish. The town itself isn't the attraction: the Sea to Sky highway route there is phenomenal, unbelievably gorgeous, totally unforgettable, and very dangerous. One of you has to keep your eyes on the road; then switch drivers on the way back so the other can take in the spectacular scenery. It's not nicknamed the "Squeamish Highway" for nothing. If you want to drive on to Whistler, it's a little less than a 2 hour drive from Van. but as it's under construction for the 2010 Olympics, there might be some wait time.

We just got back from a visit to Vancouver, B.C. Very nice and clean, friendly people everywhere ! Went to Stanley Park, Horseshoe Bay, Granville Island, Metropolis Mall (with 470 stores) etc. Just drive around, everything is new to first-timers. Might be a bit nippy there, so pack warm clothes and umbrella. Also, Victoria is pretty too, especially Butchard Garden.....I could spend DAYS there. Have a great time !!!!!

Some fun tourist things- Capilano Suspension Bridge, Grouse Mountain (you can take the gondola to the top, great view!), Steveston Village, Granville Island, Stanley Park, Van Dusen Gardens, etc....

Check out http://www.vancouver.com . They have a "Things To Do" section, as well as a top 5 section so you can see what many have voted as the top places to go and things to see.

There's a lot of events going on around town too. You could try catching a BC Lions (football) or a Vancouver Canucks (hockey) game!

A must when in Vancouver is take a ferry to Vancouver Island. Visit Victoria http://www.tourismvictoria.com/ & the West Coast - TOFINO http://www.tofino-bc.com/ via Tsawwassen through the Gulf Islands to Victoria, then drive to Tofino (2 hour ferry to Victoria - about 3 hour drive from Victoria to Tofino).

July seems to be the driest & warmest month. Highs in the low 30° C range. Any later in the year,Tofino may be fogged in.
