Halifax or Montreal? Which is best for a weeks holiday?

Well, I am not familiar with Halifax, but I love Montreal! It is a beautiful city with a pretty good metro system, & lots of cabs! There are lovely small hotels in town, & the best streets (in my opinion!) are St Denis, & St Catherine for night life & any kind of eating establishments you can think of! My favorites are Mikado, on St Denis, & I can't remember the Russian place off of St Catherine...wish I could...it is terrific!
The Creperie Bretone is wonderful on upper St Denis.
The old city has lots to see! There are lots of hills in the city too, so if you walk a lot, you will find them!
I forgot, the island that had the expo, they turned into a race track, & in the middle is a casino! If you get up there for a race, it is very exciting, & you can metro right to the island!

Go with Halifax because we get a fair amount of snow, have wonderful scenery, historical sites, hotels with beautiful views, and the friendliest airport in the world. What more could you ask for?

I'm not a big fan of Montreal but out of the two choices it wins hands down. My company has sent me to Halifax in the winter and it was closed.

Being a big city Montreal has lots to offer but it does have that language problem, don't worry about it no matter how good your French is its not good enough if you are from away. Transportation around the city is great with the Metro (subway) to awful with the busses, like most places. If you want to get out of the city you will need to hire a car (we drive on the other side).

Family wise inside the city the Bio-dome is a must see. A lot of the tourist attractions close during the winter months. Contrary to popular belief Canada isn't the land of ice and snow last year we didn't have snow in the Eastern Ontario/West Quebec area till after Christmas. Snow in the Sault area is fairly common around Halloween but it will be a light dusting until about mid November

i called into Halifax during the war for taking on water and fuel and i didn't take to the place at all

Halifax is okay, but unless theres' a big festival on, you'll run out of things to do within two days.

You could spend weeks, maybe months, in Montreal and never run out of new things to do.

If you go to Yorkshire, watch out for the Halifax Slasher.
