hi vicky, i live in niagara falls, and if you are coming from the states you technically need a passport but realistically they don't "say" they require that at the border.

You can get passport homes from the post office there is a fee and a lot of annoying work to do, but it's probably worth it.

HAve fun in Niagara Falls and makes sure you visit clifton hill it's the best , maybe not so much in the fall but summer there rocks!

American citizens do not require a pass to go across the border to Canada. This requirement will probably take a couple more years to come to fruition -- don't let it keep you from visitng Niagara.

If you are coming the the US you dont need one right now,
And if you do come up here enjoy your stay.

I believe that will start next year.

Currently all you need to go into Canada is a valid birth certificate and a picture ID.
Soon (although no one knows exactly when) you'll need a valid passport.
Not sure what country you're from so check with your local government to see how you would go about obtaining a passport.
And, if you do visit Niagara Falls, you'll really enjoy it.

The current plan for requiring passports for border crossings into Canada from the States for American citizens will begin January 2008. However, they have been changing the date so it's not 100% sure when that will begin.

I do recommend that you do get your passport anyway, though, for when you will be travelling to other countries. Sometimes you can do it online but you will probably need to go to a government office, fill out forms, and get some snazzy pictures taken.

And as a sidenote, even when passports will be required, it will totally be worth it to travel to Canada!

If you are coming from the states via car you may need to show a passport at the border. If you are coming via airplane you will definitely have to show a passport.
