Calgary is a really neat place. It's easy to get around because it's flat and spread out. Calagary is just east of the Rocky Mountain foothills. It is home to the World famous Calgary Rodeo, and the people there take their rodeo seriously! But there's lots to do when the rodeo has packed it up and gone away. They have great theatre there, night clubs, and all that sort of thing, plus lots of outdoor activities, including boating and sailing on the reservoir. In the winter, there's great skiing, cross country skiing and snowmobiling.
As well as awesome apres ski. Calgary also hosts one of Canada's largest Oktoberfests - so there's a good reason to go at any time of year.
If you want to find out more about Calgary, google it up and find out lots of interesting details. |

It's OK. If you love nature, then go to Banff, which is about a 2 to 3 hour drive from Calgary -- It's Amazing. |

Since I live in Calgary, I may be biased here, but I really like this city. We're becoming VERY spread out, so a car is pretty much a necessity. We have a fairly young population -- a lot of young families live here. The city is very much a "collection of communities" - kinda like little self-supporting towns all joined together to form the larger city. At night, the downtown core turns into a ghost town, with most of the activity happening in the suburbs (although with all the new condo construction happening in the inner city, that trend may start reversing soon).
Calgary Stampede starts this Friday. Most of the year, this is a no-nonsense, industrious city full of hard-working people. But for those 10 days of Stampede, we let loose, relax, stop working and stop taking ourselves so seriously for awhile. It's just one huge non-stop party 24-hours a day, from start to finish.
The city is located at the confluence of the Bow and Elbow Rivers. The Elbow River is dammed at the south side of the city, to form the Glenmore Reservoir. The rivers, reservior, and other water features allow for some nice summer recreation areas. We're also less than 1 hour's drive from Banff National Park and the Canadian Rocky Mountains.
Winters can be rather cold, but our weather patterns are formed by the mountains, and we regularly experience warm Chinook winds that will bring our temperatures above freezing and melt our snow, even at the height of winter. |

Calgary rocks. It is way better than Edmonton. |

It's okay. Hopefully you'll have a good guide because it is fairly spread out. Edmonton is better.... |

years ago I heard people say that the best view of Calgary was in your rear view mirror. |

Haven't been, but I have an online friend who lives there. It seems lovely, and is situated right next to the Canadian Rockies. He likes it there. |

Calgary is a great city. There is so much to see and do there. I would recomend coming over between the 7th and 16th of July, as that is the world famous stampede. Rodeo, games, live music, rides, it has it all! |
