As a Canadian woman, my opinion is that we as Canadians have been doing a great job with excepting Foreigners in our country. There will always be problems, and nothing is ever sweet and rosy, but for the most part Canadians are very tolerant, abiding and excepting.. We have excepted hundreds of immigrants from all over the world. We are enriched by them as they are by living in this great Nation.
Toronto a city of great diversity, is a treasure house of many different Nations living here and their art, food and goodness that each year there are so many Festivals honoring the many people that have settled here and call this Nation Home. Our Supermarkets carry a great variety of products for our many cuisine's. that our immigrants have brought with them to this country and Canadians now love. Many food products are imported from other lands, but many are now produced here. Restaurants, and Banquet halls carry menus of many cuisines. Many Banquet Hall in Toronto, can hold banquets from all cultures, and cook food from all nations, Even our Hospitals menus have a variety of meals, . not like home or a restaurant, no, but a variety.
Our Schools have many programs for Immigrate Children to settle and learn the language. There are many programs for first immigrants to learn the English language, and becoming a Canadian Citizen is a great honor for immigrants moving here.
Hope this helps. |

Canada is a land of immigrants. But we welcome peace-loving, law-abidding, open-minded immigrants. Others are welcome to spread hate and crime where they live. |

I am a born and raised anglophone Canadian with French/English background living in Montreal.
I work with Iranians, Indians, Tunisians, Lebanese, Greeks, Filipinos, Chinese, French and Italians. I play golf with two Chinese and a Filipino in my foursome. I visit my Filipino friend on the weekends. He is married to a Jewish girl and lives next door to a black family. And I go to football games with my other friend from the West Indies.
I think this is typical of the Montreal culture, but probably similar in other Canadian cities like Toronto and Vancouver. About the only places I have heard being a bit "less" tolerant were the prairies and the maritimes. But you don't see Klan rallies here, no cross burnings, no people getting beaten up on the street because of their color.
This is not to say that racism does not exist here, because it does. We have had issues in tournaments with muslim girls being required to remove their hijabs for "safety" reasons, vandalism of Jewish schools and churches, and even a Quebec town passing a set of rules for immigrants who choose to live there, such as no stoning of women.
However, Canadians are probably the most accepting in the cultures I have seen, and you should find it easy to immigrate and be accepted. |

Yes and No... Everyone is welcome.. the only time a problem arises is when all you hear them say is how great their country is and want to move back.... Well if it was so great why leave?? and go back... That is one thing this is annoying. Everyone is tired of hearing it. And the other is putting their cultures before us. Like turbans while being a cop... things like that. The Government is bad for bowing down without asking or getting input. Weird how Canada has to change to keep outsiders happy. When it should be the other way around. Religion over rules common sense and safety. Its not good.
No its cool because its a apart of Canada so many different types of people it makes things interesting. Plus you get to meet more people who have traveled better educated with makes good conversations.
I hope this doesn't sound rude its just an honest answer. |

My whole family and almost everyone I know is an immigrant...we Canadians embrace multiculturalism...yes it's true that there have been unfortunate incidents involving racism and intolerance as well as reports that immigrants are reduced to poverty in our country...no question we need to review some aspects of our immigrant services...however, overall Canada welcomes and supports immigrants. We very much appreciate their contribution to the economy and to the social fabric of our country...I couldn't imagine my city or my country without immigrants! |

Besides our Aboriginal peoples, our country was founded on immigrants. I love how our country is so diverse in culture, language and history.
My grandparents living in Canada are from Scotland, my dad is from Portugal, I have an uncle from Korea, my other uncle is from England.
Only ignorant people have problems with people immigrating from another country. |
