Lmfao! Someone actual asked me that, while i was at the states. He asked if i lived in an igloo, if i had a pet beaver, and if they have malls in Canada! And to top that off, "Do you guys have cars there?" Lol and "Do you guys have internet?"

Kilty
LOL Mea--and let me guess-the genius who asked if you had internet probably asked you on the internet. As for malls, I believe Yorkdale (in Toronto) was the first indoor mall in North America if I'm not mistaken.

I have never met anyone in my life who thought that Canadians lived in igloos !!!

Nor have I met anyone who thinks Alaska residents live in igloos.

Ok. You sound bothered about that, don't let such things get to you, people say all sorts of things and your best bet is to either ignore such comments, or correct the impression. I am an African, and would you believe that people still think we live on trees? Once in Aberdeen, a little girl pointed at me and asked her father "where is her tail?!!!!!!!" Like i am a monkey or something!!!! I really don't blame people when they say things like that because it is mostly because first they are not well informed, nor well travelled. Back home we call such people "bush people" because they do not know anything beyond what they've got in their little cocoons. On the other hand, it's also tough to blame people with such impressions when all they ever see about Africans is wild looking people, with dangling ears trailing right behind them, and people who look like carnivores! I just laugh when I am asked all these demeaning questions, I am not so bothered about them, because I know how amazed they'd be if only they knew the truth.

In essence, don't let such comments get to you, use it to your advantage by showing how ignorant they are or just plain ignore them!

I know how you feel. But, your message would reach more ignorants if you put it in the USA travel section.

Nothing wrong with a nice little igloo, in designer colors, with inside sanitation.....

I don't live in one either but we are thinking about selling, maybe we could upgrade and get one!

Years ago we went on vacation (drove from Central Ontario to Florida). We made a stop in Tennessee because my dad used to live there and he wanted to visit a few friends. One of them took us to another man's house to look at some antique cars he had. When we got there, his wife came out of the house and the man introduced us, he said we were visiting from Canada. She got a very scared look on her face, said "They're Eskimos?" and ran into the house! She would not come back out. We still laugh about that trip!
