San Fran Kid

Hi I'm going to Toronto, ON, Canada and was wondering what things/attractions there are to do or see?

Well I'm going from Thursday August 17th, till Monday August 21st. I'm a big sports fan but the Rogers Master under the US Open Series (tennis) will be done in Toronto on the 16th and will conclude in Montreal which is too far of a drive. The Toronto Bluejays (Baseball) also happen to be away for the whole week. I've already been to the CN tower and amusement parks in the area. I do attend to get a tour of the Rogers Center while the Jays hit the road. I also checked the toronto city pass which was mostly museums which I'm not a fan of and also it cost $53 per persom USD. So help me ought and what does the great city of Toronto have to offer? Keep it kid friendly as well.

With more than 150 different nationalities, Toronto is one of the world’s single largest centres for cultural diversification. Worldfest brings many of these communities together under a single umbrella.

Ho-Hai-Yan !
Featuring everything there is to know about Taiwanese-Canadian culture, the Ho-Hai-Yan festival runs from August 18 to 20.

Consider a trip to Centre Island.

Ferry leaves several times a day and travels from Queen's Quay across lake Ontario to the island. There is an amusement park there - think it is called Centreville.

You can pack a cooler with snacks. The ferry cost is nominal.

The zoo now has a water park area that is included in the price of admission.

Black Creek Pioneer Village is at the north end of the city.

If you are a sports fan you might want to visit the Hockey Hall of Fame which is downtown Toronto. At the Rogers Centre there is a CFL game on the 19th - Toronto is playing Montreal.

The Ontario Science Centre is very hands-on and a nice cool place on a hot day. It also has a cinesphere theatre (extra admission).

Then there is Ontario Place at the lakeshore. You'll be here when the CNE (Canadian National Exhibit is on (starting August 18) and admission to Ontario Place is included during the CNE.

If you like culture and markets there are different ethnic sections of the city and the St. Lawrence Market is an interesting experience.

Another website to check is www.torontoplus.ca and that's all I can think of right now.

Enjoy your visit!

You already have a lot of terrific ideas here. Here's another two:

1) My kids (age 13+) really enjoy walking around the Queen St West area (west of University Ave) to soak up the atmosphere and buy knick-knacks (T-shirts, posters, etc). It seems to be a hi-lite for their cousins when they come in from out of town.

2) You didn't mention age when you said kid-friendly, but here's a more adult/older teen idea. If you enjoy comedy, Second City is (IMHO) an underappreciated city treasure, with the cast often becoming famous after their apprenticeship here (eg Martin Short, Dan Ackroyd, Andrea Martin, Catherine O'Hara, Dave Thomas, John Candy). They have a terrific show on right now (Bird Flu over the Cuckoo's Nest) with one of the best casts I've seen in a while. A relatively inexpensive evening. Here's the link http://www.secondcity.com/?id=theatres/toronto

Toronto Zoo,theaters, shoes, restaurants, trains, the people are so friendly and help full. but remember it is a gay community .so they have alot of free things to do.all so smoking and buying grass in there stores is Legal so make sure you leave it in Canada.

The Hockey Hall of Fame, the Air Canada Centre tour, you mentioned the Rogers Centre tour- be sure to go on it- you'll get to see some private boxes, and see the worlds first retractable roof (I work there), Centreville is great for kids- just take the ferry which is not a far walk from Rogers Centre.

I agree with some of the other people telling you to go to the Hockey Hall of Fame where the Stanley Cup Resides as well as going to the Rogers Center Private Tour. Dont forget to go on a Toronto Boat Cruise while you are here as well!they are a lot of fun with DJ's and dinners on board. You might also want to check out The Docks entertainment Complex. During the day they have lots to do for families. Go- Carting, pools... and week-ends they have a drive-in movie theater... all of this located right at the Lake side. Very nice... www.thedocks.com

I have just returned from Toronto to Scotland. I spent two awsome weeks in Toronto. If the Jays are playing, go see them. the Sky dome is a brilliant atmosphere. Go to the Beaches. Nice walks, nice shops, and nice food/drink. Niagara is a must if you have time. Canada's Wonderland is also good for the kids ( but you done that)? The city pass is good value for money. I'm not into museums and the like either but you do get the CN Tower and City tour and also the harbour tour (I think). Or what about a day shopping. The Eaton Centre, or Bloor Street. If your driving go out of the city towards Wonderland. The exit just before Wonderland there is a huge mall there. Can't remember the name, sorry. Whatever you do, whatever time you have, I'm sure you will have a great time. Enjoy
