I have a wife and 2 kids. What are the best areas to live in, in terms of commuting and for the family. |

Royal Alexandra Hospital is located just north of the City's Downtown core. Unfortunately it is not exactly the most favorable of areas.
If you're looking for convenience I would suggest moving into the Castledowns area its only about 10 mins from the hospital, close to lots Parks, schools and more dense residential area, good area to raise kids.. if you go down 97th Street to about 145th Avenue is an okay area too. Stay clear of anywhere near 118th ave (lots of lower income people, and homeless near really ugly commercial store fronts)also, living in surrounding communities such as St. Albert, or Spruce Grove tend to get a little trecherous in the winter time and Would add an extra 30-45 minute commute time. |

Another option is somewhere like Spruce Grove...or an outside area like this. Spruce Grove is outside of the city completely and it is a very nice location.
If you would like more options and to know more about any area please feel free to contact me.
Good Luck with your move! |

Some very nice neighbourhoods
Forest/Terrace heights
Ottewell
Hollyrood
They're all about around each other and are clean and have no crime. All of them have local schools, Jr. Highs and High schools within walking distance.
Theres always houses going up for sale in these areas and none are over-the-top expensive (unless you're looking for a house on Rowland Road in the forest heights area. Some prices there get to about a million).
They're all about a 15- 20 minute drive to the Royal Alex, 5 or 10 to downtown. |

Well, there are alot of areas. St. Albert is popular. It is clean, safe, and very popular with young families. It is about 20 minutes from northern St .Albert to downtown Edmonton, and almost an hour to Edmonton international airport (south of edmonton, st. albert is north). Royal glenora is pricey (over $1,000,000), but very well located, and established. Many areas in the south-west are very good. Blue Quill, Riverbend, Westbrook all offer homes in their 20's-40's, good schools, parks, and are about 15 minutes from downtown. |

Much of the area around the RAH is older. I think with children, a more suburban, newer, family oriented area might be to your liking. I think you might want to go north to Castledowns. St. Albert would be another excellent choice even though it's a little farther. It's lovely, and very community/family oriented but watch out for higher property taxes. Another option would be west past 170 Street. Or go south but you'll have to cross the river and that often consumes a lot of time, then drive quite a ways to get beyond the university area. Good luck! |

From what Michael C stated,
People from Edmonton aren't rude, were actually pretty laid back and nice citizens...with the exception of some of course.
Housing in Edmonton is very very expensive. Same as rent. Your average 1300 sq.ft house is around $400k + . A 2 room apartment is around $1300 a month plus food, transportation...etc
Around the RAH, its not the greatest place to raise a family. You have the airport right by, dirty china town and kings way garden mall. I would suggest living somewhere on the west side, close to 142nd st. Westmount area perhaps? Or the Glenora area. From Wesmount to the RAH is about a 10 min drive and is relatively safe. |

First off..
Sorry to hear that you're moving to Edmonton.. People are rude, ignorant, and don't know how to enjoy the small things as the only thing that matters to them is money.
Second off..
The north-east part of the city is pretty good. I'm between at least 2 or 3 shopping centres... Tons of schools/parks/playgrounds for the kids...
Anywhos, best of luck with the move.. Hope you're not leaving somewhere scenic and friendly to come here... |
