Canada's three biggest cities are Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. Toronto is the financial capital, so most work is found there, but it's not nearly as hectic as London. It has tons of immigrants from around the world. It's a great city, it's much like a big American city but with very few dangerous areas. I don't live there because I find it too sprawling, with too many people living in faraway suburbs and not enough public transport or people living downtown. This has changed a lot recently, though, with big condo developments right downtown, near the lakeshore. If you come from London, you will be used to sprawl anyway.
Montreal and Vancouver are both, in my opinion, terrific cities, a great balance of being big enough to be vibrant and interesting and have lots of things to do and maintain a business centre and yet still have a much more relaxed lifestyle. Montreal is a lot cheaper, which is one of the reasons I live there rather than Vancouver. But Vancouver's weather is a lot better.
Calgary is up and coming. In my opinion, it's not quite there with Vancouver and Montreal for having things to do, but it really grew a lot during the oil boom, so maybe it's worth considering.
I don't want to insult the other Canadian cities, because they all have their individual charms. But none of them are as vibrant as Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver (yet); anyone coming from London would find them very quiet. |

You wrote, "...some work to be found ...". I hope you're not assuming you can just show up, get a job and live someplace. You have to apply to immigrate here like everyone else. That will take a very long time and your chances of successfully immigrating are even lower if you do not have the skills, experience and education in fields that are in demand in Canada.
On that note, I should mention that we have plenty of qualified, unemployed individuals of our own. In case you hadn't noticed, Canada is in the midst of a deepening recession and so what jobs there are out there will go to our own citizens and not to immigrants. Sorry, but that's the way it is.
My advice? Before you start looking for information on where you can find work in Canada, see first if you even qualify to immigrate here in the first place. http://www.cic.gc.ca |

Do you have your immigration papers already. If you only just applied they may not be completed for years. You have to be accepted as an immigrant before you job hunt.
Right now there is a recession in Canada and not many job opportunities. |

There's a lot of work in Calgary, but affordable housing can be hard to find. Calgary is getting to be a pretty big city, though. A lot of people choose to work in Calgary and live in one of the smaller satellite towns like Okotoks, Airdrie or Strathmore. It's a great place to live with the Rocky Mountains only an hour away, the Stampede in the summer and paved bicycle paths leading pretty much everywhere. |
