The government there seems to want to appear that they are doing their best to promote more environmentally friendly and sustainability in the country... they link gov't page to 'eco-action' that contains information such as "An action plan to reduce greenhouse gases and air pollution"

as far as how much they are actually doing, it's hard to say without being exposed to it every day.

actually Canada is not very environmentally friendly at the moment.

we had agreed to the kyoto accord but have done just about nothing.

the only big country wide movement I know about is the one ton challenge and it involves reducing your emissions by 1 ton in a year.

In 2007 we were 4 th behind the United States on the list of most polluting countries.

all you have to do is pull over and walk about a hundred yards or so beyond our beatiful forest-lined highways and you'll see. Even better fly over the rockies and see the beautiful bald heads from the logging. Nothings greener that a clear-cut. Even better is the mono speciies forests that are replanted which provide very little for natural life to thrive. And the jewel in Canada's crown would be what we've allowed Exxon, Texaco, and their ilk to do in AB for a little bit of money. Their raking in billions, and their throwing a few shiny coins at the cowboys, politicians, and tradesmen. Canadians are one of the worst offenders for their carbon footprint. We've ruined our international reputation for not following thru on Kyoto, which we signed (flawed it may be, but it aint all about pleasing the US). The amount of water we use should make us all ashamed. I don't remember the numbers but I was quite shocked. (I subsequently reduced my water usage anyway)
Canada actually sucks, I've read that the states is actually doing better than us (I can't quote the source)

I think Canada is a very beautiful country and I can only hope it is as green as it looks, smells and feels everytime I visit! =)

Well, I don't know if any other country has "EARTH DAY" but Canada does. Yeah, I never though about that... is it a world thing or just Canada? When i was in Kindergarten-about grade 3 or four, we'd do earth day projects, sing Earth day songs...(haha) bring home baby trees to plant in our yards. (which by the way i still have a spruce tree in my yard that i brought home from school....some how it survived but it's really tiny.) Our school went tree planting one year... thy make us plant garden's in our school yards. They had a day every year where they challenge us to bring all recyclable stuff in our lunch. YOU NAME IT, OUR SCHOOL DID IT!
