How Long does it take to get a canadian passport?

How Long does it take to get a canadian passport Living in Vancouver? Is it quicker to get one over the internet or to go in person to the government office? I have a trip planned for the fist week of February 2009to the US.

I live in Windsor, Ontario, and applied back in the spring at the local passport office (in person). I had my passport in less than two weeks. As the time approaches when it will be mandatory to carry one (June, 2009) it is inevitable that the wait will increase as the procrastinators scramble to apply.
I would go personally to the passport office and apply as soon as you can, and you should be fine. You are still 3 months away from your trip, so as long as you do it soon, I can't see you having a problem as long as your documentation is all in order (proper pictures, etc.)
Have a great trip!
EDIT: Noticing that your trip to the States is February, '09, I'm assuming you're FLYING from a Canadian city to a U.S. city (somewhere south?), in which case you will need the passport. If, by any chance, you're crossing by LAND (driving) into the States, you only need your driver's licence and original birth certificate until June, 2009.

its usually always quicker to go in person, Im pretty sure the internet method takes longer

this link will give you the information you need. it says in person about two weeks wait. passport Canada processing times:

it can take 3-4 weeks or even more lately with the recent border regulations. You can pay more (I think $30-40) for express service and you should get it in a week or so.

I applied for mine on March 6th and received it via registered mail on March 18th------ 12 days total. Anyone who says it takes 6 months to a year is a total moron.

You have better put a quick step on your documentations, if you would like to make your trip by February sir.
I recommend that you would call or go to a local office nearest you and apply, you have one in your city.
Always make sure that it is a government issued site, if you decide to do it on line. However I do not recommend that you do this on line, it may slow your proses down for your passport application.
I encourage that you pay a visit to the embassy nearest you.
Here is a government issued site, it also has telephone numbers where you can call if you have any questions or concerns.

Best of wishes to you and always,

it took me 6 weeks. if you go to the office in person they asked me if i have any trip planned. based on the trip they do there best to get it to you asap. if the trip is within few days then they even try to do it on the same day but thats if you are lucky. i think no longer then 6 weeks but i am in ontario. good luck. also try calling them but they might have a big line up so you may have to wait on the phone. if you decide to go in person then get there early incase they are really busy. december is coming so lot of people plan trips even though there are economic problems. good luck

Print the forms off the website then go to a passport office. It's the quickest.

I got mine in 5 days when I renewed in May of this year.
