How can my friend from Canada send me money - I live in the US?

He has canadian money... but I need him to send it to me and I need US money.

How does he send it to me?

He can go to the bank and buy a bank draft in US funds or to a post office and buy a money order in US funds and send it to you in the mail. He can send you the money through Western Union - he will need to find one of their offices. He can email you the equivalent amount in Canadian money and you can go to a bank and change it to US funds.

I'm from the States and still have my American account open because I have student loans that only accept American money and since I'm not a resident and am here on a visitor's visa my husband is the only one that can work and we use PayPal to send Canadian money to my account. They just charge a service fee plus whatever the exchange rate is on that day. It can take up to a week or so to send money from one account to another but if he uses a credit (money won't come off of it unless he has insufficient funds in the bank) it'll be immediately transfered from his paypal account to yours. Then you chose to have it exchanged for American currency and you can then decide if you want it to go to your bank account or not.

Your friend should go to his bank and ask what is the simplest way of sending $US. One is that he can write a cheque to you and when he writes the amount he can put 'US Funds' on it, then mail you the cheque. When his bank finally processes the cheque, they will take that day's equivalent out of his account in Canadian money.
