How cold does it really get in Toronto in the winter?

It depends on what you are comparing it to. Toronto/Southern Ontario weather is much like New York or Michigan weather. Since we are at the same longitude. We get a bit of snow here and there, and some colder days. But nothing lasts very long at all. In the city the snow doesn't stick around and the cold is quickly warmed up by all the cars and people. Normally the range is from -5 though 10 celcius in Toronto.

Outside of the city you would see more snow (snow belts) and cooler temparatures.

On the odd occassion the temp does dip below -25, and we do have that pesky wind chill factor that makes it feel colder. But, on those days we just stay inside, complain about it, watch hockey and drink more beer. :o)

I think your arthritis would like it here. :o)

I'm no weather man or anything but if I had to guess, I'd say it averages around -5C *note that's Celsius. We do get cold snaps where the temperature can dip down to -20 -25 C. The amount of snowfall can vary greatly. There are times where you will get 2ft in one night and other times you will only get 2 inches in two weeks. I wouldn't worry about the snow as much as the cold winds that can get nasty at times. Pack warm clothes & longjohns and you'll be okay. (You'll have better luck with weather if you go before new years.) Good luck with your visit.

It gets quiet cold. But nothing you can't handle. Just dress appriatley and you'll be fine

There are days where it's really cold....and it may last for a few days but nothing you can't survive...
It's not the North Pole as you might think!

I find that it's colder when it doesn't snow.......and warmer when it is snowing......

I would say the coldest would be -20 degrees Celcius.....
if there is a "wind-chill factor" it could FEEL like -30 something like that......
but average is like 0 to -5.

And snow comes and goes.....who knows.....sometimes it comes and it's a complete white out but then it warms up the next day and it's gone......
We're not as bad as PEI or St. John's they have it the worst!
And Vancouver has little or mild winters.......and I guess we're in between. And it is the same as New York, Ohio, Michigan winters.

And you won't be bundled up like Eskimos...and more than enough options of clothes to keep every man woman child and their pets warm!!!

It can get real freezing, but make sure you're dressed up with right clothes, warmly, then you should be fine.

Generally in the twenties (Fahrenheit); generally not much snow in and around Toronto.
