Canada is a huge country, so the climate is different in different places. Victoria is one of the mildest cities in Canada. Sometimes it doesn't even snow in winter there.

In general, B.C. is the mildest province. That's mainly due to two physical features. One is the warm ocean currents that come by the west coast. The other is the Rocky Mountains which act as a wall against the cold arctic air masses.

In general, in B.C., the winter rarely gets below zero degrees Celcius, although of course sometimes it does.

The rest of Canada can get quite cold in the winter. You say you're Asian. I'm assuming from the south. China's north and even Japan's north can get quite cold.

Places in the prairies get quite cold. The land is so flat, so there's no terrain to help block out cold weather from the north. It's not unheard of for the weather to get to -40 in places like Winnipeg or Regina.

Eastern Canada tends to get a lot of snow in winter.

However, most of Canada is quite warm, if not hot, in summer.

A place like Toronto has extremes. In the winter it's snowy and usually below zero. Yet, in summer it's hot and humid, and often above 30.

People cope with the cold by wearing warm clothes. Most buildings are well-heated. Unlike some parts of Asia, we have central heating instead of spot heating. This insures that the whole building will be nice and cozy warm. Electricity is fairly cheap in Canada, so we use it to both heat our homes in winter, and cool them in summer.

What I wonder about are the first Europeans who came over and decided to actually settle in Eastern Canada. I can imagine if they came in summer it wouldn't seem so bad. But after that first winter, you'd think they'd just go straight back to Europe and never come back. Why they stayed is a mystery.

Canada is really only cold in the Winter (December-March). The rest of the time its either Spring , Summer or Autumn; and its not cold in any of those. Winter on the other hand can get very cold but on those terrible days don't go outside if you don't have to and instead stay inside and relax. Winter can be a very relaxing time but also very fun because believe it or not: snow is fun! Tobogganing, skating, hockey, snow angels, snow forts and of course snow fights winter is fun for all ages. Just bundle up and its not that bad at all. One bad part of Winter is shoveling snow but if you really can't do that there are always teenagers you can pay do it. =)

So in summary, Canada is really only cold for a few months of the year but seriously its not that bad; if it was no one would live here. I also must mention Winter can also easily pass as the most beautiful time of the year. Everything is white and clean, it just glistens. Winter is a time to snuggle up beside the fire, watch tv, read or just catch up with family and friends.
I hope this helps, and best regards to you as well.

Most of the northern parts of Canada are sparsely populated, so let's assume you are talking about locations within 600km of the southern border. Yow will experienced pleasant warm summers, maybe as high as 30. Spring and fall temperatures will be closer to 12 degrees or so. Winter temperatures can be quite cold, well below zero. Apparently Asian people have found a way to cope, as is evidenced by the significant asian population, especially in Toronto. If you dress properly, you will do just fine.

Since you are going to be living in Calgary, here's what you need to know from the Environment Canada website.

By the way, Calgary has a very large south Asian population, with people originating in the north (Pakistan, Punjab) all the way to Sri Lanka, and they all cope very well with the weather here.

.....
Canada is only cold in the winter. I live In Winnipeg and it's been -45 and then you add wind chill and we've been exposed to -52 and lower. Our Summers are pretty decent if you ask me, and you just cope with it. in the winter you ain't gonna be going outside in shorts and a t-shirt. one saying i hear a lot of is you can always take layers off but you can't put on what you don't have.
Dress appropriately and your good

LOL.... everyone thinks of polar bears and igloos when they think of Canada, when in truth, it doesn't get very cold here at all. In Ontario, anyway.
Our summers can get up to 40 degrees Celcius.
