How come Canadians who oppose Bush are voting for Progessive Conservatives?

Especially in the maritimes, I can't believe how poorly the Liberal Party is doing. Also why are Canadians no longer backing the NDPs?

Do you really like Harper that much? When Obama gets in the USA it will be more rightwing in Canada than in the states.

* On a last note if it's a lame dead heat between the NDPs-Liberals and the PCs, the voter turnout will decrease and the Federal Quebec party will WIN over the seats!

And then it's a victory for Quebec

Please do not compare the Canadian political establishment with that of the US.

The only things they have in common are the words "conservative" and "liberal" which have quite different values and overtones in Canada.

how do you know who's voting for who?

I'm pretty sure most people see Harper just as another Bush puppet, so if someone doesn't like Bush, they would not vote conservative

I wasn't aware I was voting progressive conservative. Thanks for keeping me informed.

* I will be voting the exact same way I have done in every election since I became eligible to vote, in hopes that this time things might actually swing in my favour.

not backing NDP's? did you see the last election. they got more votes than ever before (by FAR) they got more seats than they've ever had. they are being backed more and more everyday.

I hate bush and I hate Harper, but conservatives are allowed to hate bush and still vote conservative in their own country.

Uh, your logic on the quebec thing is way off. None of that makes sense.

Did you take that 1/2 course on politics in highschool and think you know everything now?

Harper is not Bush. He has pragmatically decided to deep six opposition to same-sex and abortion rights, they do not flaunt religion so you cant really compare the Canadian right wing to the Repuglicans.

as a Canadian the last guy I want to see in US is Osama, I mean Obama. The guy is bad news for Canada in several key ways:
- wants to change NAFTA to even more heavily favour US
- wants to prevent use of oilsands product in the US
- wants to prevent CN from running new tracks thru Chicago which will screw the planned super port in Prince Rupert.
-has a grudge against our present government over NAFTA flap/ blames NAFTA for job loss to China (some twisted logic there)
-never been to Canada
- strongly protectionist and even more border security

Even as a liberal Canadian I hope McCain stomps him.

A conservative politician in Canada is not the same as a Republican. They are usually left of or in line with the Democrats. I was amazed when the New Democrats were musing about dropping the "New" from their name, the Democrats are an extreme right wing party by their standards. So if Obama won Canada and the US would have leaders in a similar section of the political spectrum. And I imagine Canadian no longer back the NDP because they have seen that every time a province elects those commies it immediately goes broke.

I hate our party politic system.

Why do I have to vote for a party. Why can't I vote for an individual. The worst part about our system is that if I want a particular person to be Prime Minister, I have to vote for that parties representative even if I 100% disagree with them.

Personally, I don't make my decision based only on whether or not they support the American government....I make it based on whether or not I feel they will support me. Haven't felt that for awhile.
