How do most Canadians welcome legal immigrants?

Particularly from the U.S. and have initially had some family that had originally come from Canada.

Both my parents are immigrants. They have friends, they interact with society. They volunteer and are a part of things.

One thing that always bothered them was the cliques that immigrants seem to immerse themselves in. The Polish halls and the Muslim knights etc. etc. It was their choice to come to Canada, so they chose to be Canadian. I still have that heritage, and I welcome it, but I am Canadian first.

One thing that bothers ME about Canada is that nobody really says their Canadian. If you ask a guy on the street what his background it, you hear...Polish, Italian, etc. etc.

So--if you choose to come to Canada, remember you chose. We don't send embossed invitations. Be Canadian and embrace it.

We have bigots the same as any country, but the majority of Canadians are open to new people. The only thing that bothers me is, if you move here and bring all of your old countries problems.
To me, if you want to move to Canada try to fit in. Don't hate your neigbhour just because he's a serb, or a muslim or ??????. We all have habits that someone else can't understand, all I ask is try to be tollerant and I'll buy the first beer, you can get the second.

I am a Canadian, 3rd generation. Since, most of us have mixed backgrounds, we are open to immigration. What I am opposed to, are people who come to my country, and bring their political baggage with them. If you come to Canada to escape persecution, religious or political, then please come and join us, and start a new life here. If you come to Canada, and expect us to change our ways and heritage then please stay home with your third world dictators and religious fanatics. Don’t come here with hate in your heart, but love for your fellow Canadians.

In the early 1900's - 1950's, Canada was against immigration. They wanted to keep ties to Britain strong, and keep their traditions and culture. Therefore, they were very picky about who they allowed into the country. Also, they were against enemy aliens (People who were from a country that Canada was at war with) because of fear of spies. However, after the end of WWII, Canada became very open with immigration of all races.

Welcome to Canada!
