How exactly is this offensive? |
http://www.thestar.com/News/Canada/article/452988
It's a French-Canadian historical figure holding a plate of poutine. How can a person be offended by someone holding a plate of delicious food? |

It would be offensive to some because it takes an important historical figure from a certain group and demeans the image by tossing in some stereotypes. Think of other non-majority groups in other places, think of the important figures from that group, and toss in some stereotypes. Meant as a joke, but not everyone finds that sort of thing funny. |

Honestly, sometimes it feels like people in Quebec just make it their pastime being offended about some slight or other. I'm not sure how this one is offensive... maybe because it is a Quebec icon on a Canada Day invitation bothering separatists, maybe it was seen as disrespectful to an important historical figure to have a 'junk food' offering. Who knows? It isn't an obvious one to me. |

I don't understand how it could be offensive either, unless the people who have taken offense don't like poutine. |

It's not offensive at all.
I'm from Montreal..Poutine is part of our culture..and it tastes great! |

Some people see offence in just about everything. They apparently have no sense of humour and should get over themselves already. |

Who knows why anyone gets offended these days... Political correctness I guess may be the issue...but I don't know why. maybe some people don't like Poutine...but that is their problem why make the rest of the world suffer. |

I have no idea. Some may find it mocking. I don't think so. I'm not Canadian, but I live in Canada with my husband and I like poutine. It's great. |
