How good is Toronto in comparision with top american cities ?

I am planning to immigrate to Canada and live in Toronto. I have heard Toronto is not that exciting place to live and work in comparision to top american cities like NY, chicago or SF. Just wanted to get your opinion.

Toronto may not have the "exciting" factor that NYC does, but it's still a great city. I've been to the cities you list and would choose Toronto to live in over the others.

Toronto is clean and safe in comparison to the US cities, people are friendly and polite. We have top notch restaurants, theatre and events (Toronto FIlm Festival is the world's 3rd largest film fest, Gay Pride Parade, etc.) There's sporting events and teams, lots of natural scenery and a close distance to tourist attractions like Niagara Falls. There's beaches and lakes in the city. You have many of the same brand-name and designer shops. And there's also always some US movie being filmed here so there are celebrity sightings, major concerts, and a pretty good music and club scene here.

it's also one of the most culturally diverse cities- with Greektown, Little Brazil, KoreanTown, Chinatown, Little Italy, Little India, Polish area, etc. Everyone is accepting and people don't a give a second look at mixed race couples, gay couples, or anything that's not Wal-mart "normal"-looking.

The weather here isn't that bad and it's mostly exaggerated- it's cold from November to March and almost unbearably hot in the summer.

cutie
toronto tops any american city by far.

Personally, I find Toronto to be far superior to New York. At least in Toronto you can get a good pint of beer in a pub!! (unlike NYC).

GIRLYPENGUIN
TORONTO IS 100% CLEANER THAN ANY US CITY. AND MORE FRIENDLY

Well if you dont like world class restaurants, theatre and major sporting events then Toronto is not your town.

If you're gay you'll dig it. It's pretty cool even if you're not.

Toronto is cheaper and safer and has a better transit system and it's fun as hell! last time i was there w went to Beir Garden near younge and church! it was great there are like a thousand events and clubs and dinning opportunities!!

solara437
Maybe not as exciting, but safer than any American city.

pj_mark115
not big fan of toronto, but less likely to get shot or robbed.

Super G
Toronto is safer than large U.S. cities, but you will pay considerably more in taxes living in Canada, and the Canadian economy does not hold up against that of the U.S. Toronto is not as large or as exciting per se as NY or Chicago or the Bay Area, but it's a good city with many attractions. An accurate comparison would be Atlanta or Seattle.

There is also the issue of climate - many Europeans and nearly all Asians are unprepared for the brutally cold weather six months of the year. The U.S. has many large cities in much warmer climates.

Immi
One of the Boring city in the world, go to Montreal or Vancouver
