How, if at all, can two unnacompanied minors, who are US citizens, ages 14 & 17 cross the Canadian border?
My cousin and I are planning a 5 day backpacking trip, alone into canada. We both have passports. Please be detailed and site your sources.
You each need to carry a letter of permission from your parents allowing you to travel to Canada independedntly. It must be signed by both parents and notarized. If one parent is deceased , a copy of the death certificate should be included, or if a single parent has sole legal and physical custody, a copy of the court order shouls be included. See sites below. If you have your passports and this parental permission, you are fine. I see you have received a lot of ewrroneous answers. You definetly MAY cross the border without an adult if you have those letters of permission. You definetly ARE considered minors since you are both under 18. Just read the sites below for the straight scoop.

You should be fine with passports, I'd worry more about where you are planning to stay overnight. Do you have family there? Many hotels don't let minors rent rooms. Or are you camping?

Go to Canada immigration then click on visting Canada all u need to know is on the site and they give u contact info. if u need more detailed info.
I have only one question why doesn't a parent want to go with you? Accidents can happen even to an expert.
It also helps to speak a little French, besides it being cool to converse in another tongue.

You cannot enter Canada without an adult since you are both minors. You must be over the age of 18 or with a parent or guardian in order to cross an international border.

well technically they are not unaccompanied minors. You have to be 12 or younger to be an unaccompanied minor. So they would be considered adults and just have your passports ready. If you were unaccompanied minors your parent or guardian would have to pick you up at the gate and sign paperwork.

I dove up to canada every summer since I got my license at 16 with no problems, you should be fine.
