It all depends what part you are thinking about. If living in a condo by Harbourfront then it's beautiful. I used to live in downtown near Eaton Centre, and I DO NOT recommend George Street as it's a scary area. Looks to be negative people -- homeless, druggies, hookers. Plus, the apartment building, a low-rise one was shitty. No heater, had bedbugs, stuff like that. I only had been there for like 2 months and moved out.

My daughter left the suburbs for down town Toronto and has been there for five years and just loves it. Like any big city there are certain areas that don't have good housing in the down town area but some of the best homes and condos and apartments are available to you. If you can afford it.........in Canadian terms downtown Toronto is expensive. I don't think that it is all that expensive, though not cheap.

It really depends if you like the hustle and bustle and atmosphere of the city or not. If you like going to parties, hearing traffic constantly and being within TTC or walking distance to shopping-- the city is for you.
