How is it possible to save money in Canada?

Taxes are so high. Everything are so expensive, especially housing. Do Canadians have much money to spend?

It is not hard at all to save money in Canada. You can live quite economically, you don't have to worry about money for health care, and salaries are good. There are lots of opportunities. Housing is expensive only in large cities - and even there you can usually find affordable options. As a Canadian I find that I can live very comfortably, travel, own a good vehicle and a house, and have money to spend, and I am retired, living on a pension - single income.

Yes, it's possible to save money. Taxes are not that high, and depending where you go , housing can be very affordable. It is generally the same here as anywhere else. You save what you can, and live within your means. It'S no different from the US in that respect.

There are plenty of ways to save money....first of all you must spend less than you earn....even if you are saving money, you can always find ways to save more. Sometimes it is simply the little things that add up. Find out what your spending leaks are and learn how to trim those expenses so you can save even more money....second of all stay away from credit cards....don't think that because it swipes that it's a good credit card :)

Taxes may be high in Canada, but, the salaries are also quite high. Just check out the positions available section in the Globe and Mail (national newspaper in Canada). The average salary is in the 70,000 to 80,000cad per year range.

Same as anywhere else, really - you have to live within whatever your means are and budget according to your income and debts and not use credit cards to buy things that you can't afford. In order to change things you have to increase your income (better job or more hours or 2nd job, etc) and/or lower your debt and lifestyle standards.

One of the easiest ways to save money is to have an extra $50.00 per paycheque taken off in taxes and each year when you do your taxes, you will have overpaid and receive a nice refund. As a father of 3 it is so hard to save but this works for us.As far as expensive housing costs, depends where you live and your needs. If you want to live in a half million dollar home then what do you expect? It is all in what your priorities are and where you live.

Put it in the bank

u r dumb
taxes are higher yes but we have more subsudized programs like health care ! Unlike in AMerica where because someone can not afford health care or their insurance company has turned them down the consequences are deadly !!
Canadians are well off as well .... don't worry about us worry about yourselves in the states ..all the social and political issues...Maybe you should visit canada and realize that many canadians live better off than americans do ....
DO you realize canada is one of the wealtiest nations nations listed ...you have far more other countries to worry about !

also included is the links to minimum wage ...minimum wage in the USA is lower than in canada
today on the exchange rate the american and canadian dollar are practically neck to neck ( canadian just a slight fraction more )

http://canadaonline.about.com/library/bl/blminwage.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minimum_wage_in_the_United_States

but thats just an example in general most professionals have a much higher paying salary as I am show americans do as well those are just an example for those that do work at minimum wage !

Visit Canada .IN the cities like any other citiy you will get smaller houses for more out side they are quite bigger !! We had americans visit and we;re suprized and how much larger our homes were then theirs.(I live 30 minutes outside of the city )
I was visitting florida once and almost dies laughing when a store clerk asked me how canadians can afford to travel ...!I almost laughed and sorry I asked him if he thought I made the same income as he does as a store clerk ...sorry if your rude you get back a rude answer.I travel extensivly all the time ....and many canadians are on the same 5 star resorts like everyone else !! We just are not loud are smoke cigars so we don't stand out as much !

Dude seriously...if you americans stop believing the american properganda regarding taxes. Its a damn myth that Canadians pay higher taxes in Canada than Americans. Americans pay 3 taxes. Fed, state and FICA. We pay 2 taxes and UI/CPP cap out at $2000/yr or so. FICA never caps out and the more you make the more you pay. As a Canadian working in the States I'm really tired of the crap. We used to pay more for goods tahts true. Here's a crazy example. In Ontario we paid $50 to register our 2007 Xterra for one year. In Colorado we paid $300 to register our 2007 Xterra for one year. In Colorado its a fee based on the value of you car not a registration fee. The nicer the car the higher your registration. A massage in Colorado is $65 and in London its $45. A doctors visit in London is FREE. In colorado its a plazma TV. You can only buy so many shirts to make it equal out. An apartment in Denver is $1100 for a 2 bdrm in London its $650-$750 for the same. Vegtable at Safeway here in the US look almost gross yet Canadian get most of there vegs from California. Aparently we get the good stuff. Lets talk beef......USA AAA beef in Colorado, California and Montana is gross. I have no idea what they feed their cows but its not good. In Canada the beef is top notch. I could go on and on. I'm here for the per diem and when it ends I heading home a little wiser.
