I will be applying for citizenship and hope that I will be able to get a job within a few months, doing anything really, I am a young professional but would really like to become a farmer, Im looking for a more relaxed lifestyle and just dont want to do anything in the corporate world, although I am qualified to do so. If you are renting (which must be the case, since $10k won't buy anything more than an acre of land in the back of nowhere), expect $10k to last you between 6 and 10 months.

To obtain citizenship, you'd need to be a permanent resident first ... which takes from 1 to 3 years to obtain. And then another 1-3 years to process citizenship status.

If you want to work, you'll have to enter on a work visa ... which means you're visa status will be tied to a specific employer (presumably also to your academic and experience background). The employer will have to fill in paperwork and pay the fees to obtain the visa - you cannot do it for yourself (i..e they must sponsor you into the country). You cannot simply enter and "look for work" ... just as a Canadian can't do so in the US.

If you enter with a "sure" job, you can usually ignore the financial solvency criteria, since the jobs that are allowed to petition for this will cover your cost-of-living.

Be sure to find out what type of work visa you're being issued; some are temporary (just like the US versions) and do NOT allow you to apply for permanent residency.

Let's see....if you really want to become a farmer 10000 won't even buy you a piece of land big enough to build a house...just how much do you know about farming???? It is very hard work requiring a lot of money, and you should have some schooling to go along with it. Do your homework. You might want to stay in the corporate world if you want a 'more relaxed lifestyle'.

Depends on how you spend your money and where in Canada you choose to live. If you are frugal and share a living space with another person you should be able to live on about $1,000 per month even in the most expensive cities.

Forget the farming idea. The days of the independent farmer are numbered and you would need hundreds of thousands of dollars to become established and the returns are not great. Many farmers in Canada, despite working very hard, actually lose money on a yearly basis.

Farming is harder work then you've likely ever done in your life. $10, 000 won't even get you started on a farm, and it certainly isn't enough money to live on for more then a few months. On top of that, we have immigration laws here that would prevent you from moving to Canada before actually having status here. You need to contact Canadian immigration before you act on even the first part of your plan.

Unless you have a family member living here, a sponsor willing to house you or an employer, you might be out of luck. Your best to find a farmer willing to employ you and provide you with housing and wages.
The money you have now won't last but a few months, depending on where you move to. Your best to visit here and look for employment, then apply for a working visa. If you find an employer willing to hire you for at least a year, get it in writing and apply. Be prepared to wait for years though, it's not as easy as people think.

You'll have to wait forever for Canadian citizenship

First of all, farming is not a relaxed lifestyle, it is probably one of the harder jobs anywhere. As for the money it would depend on where you want to live and how much you feel you need. A very basic room, or finding someone to share with, woudl allow you to live for about 8 to 10 months, perhaps a bit longer. It will not last you until you get Canadian citizenship however if you do you papers properly you would be able to work before too long.

Bakc to farming, even today most farmers rise early and work a good part of the day. You may be able to find work on a farm as a "hired hand" and this can sometimes include a place to stay. If you are looking for relaxing work then, unless you enjoy working from sun up to sun down, farming would not be the job for you.

If you are Chinese new immigrant, you should relax in China.
Canada is very expensive place, your $10K would not last long enough to get your citizenship.

Try to work in restaurants in Vancouver or Toronto, you can get free food and tips, that is easy corporate world for survive.
