Generally they are not visible in the summer below the arctic circle. You cannot drive there from anywhere. The northern lights can be seen sometimes further south in the winter. It has to be a very clear and cold night. I once saw them just outside of Edmonton on a night when it was about 40 degrees below zero. Most of the time when it is cold enough the skies are cloudy of filled with ice fog.
My point it that I lived in Edmonton for 20 years and saw them once. In 20 years in Vancouver, it never got cold enough.

Plus you never know when they will be visible. You can't just drive somewhere and automatically see them. They do not show up every night.

You would probably have to somewhere really far north such as the Yukon Border, or around there.

The Northern Lights are best seen in the fall of the year. The most popular place to see them is around Fairbanks Alaska. Sorry.

some of the displays can be seen, usually on cold winter nites, from the south but then only as a white light on the horizon type thinmg. To get the full effect you need to go north of 60 preferably in the in winter to get the colours and hues (and sounds)

Just northern BC is enough probably near the Yukon border.
