My friend is planning on biking to Vanvouver from Nova Scotia. She is in relativley good shape but has never done anything this extreme before. How long will it take her? She is estimating 2 to 2 1/2 months. |

Depending on how fast she can bike in a given day.
She'll have to go 3918.61 miles (according to mapquest from Halifax, NS to Vancouver BC)
That would be 6306 km.
If 2 1/2 months = 106 days (30+31+15) then she would have to bike 59.5 km / day (7 days a week) |
|

?

That's plenty of time. I have a cousin who cycled from New Hampshire to Arizona in a week. |

A friend of mine did it in 3 months. It's a beautiful ride. My friend had also never done anything like this before but she felt such a great sense of accomplishment afterwards. And she ended in terrific shape! |

Holy crap she has got to be crazy - especially when she reaches the west coast and it becomes a lot more up and down hill. I would say 2 to 2 and 1/2 months is a good estimate but it doesn't matter, way to go if she finishes! |

The real question is why? Doesn't she have a car? Take the bus or something-sheesh! |

I agree with the estimates of 2 - 2 1/2 months, but she should consider that the prevailing wind is from west to east, so she would be cycling into a headwind if she traveled from east to west. This may add difficulty and time to her trip, but some anecdotal evidence would suggest otherwise (see link below).
Regardless, I wish her luck. :) |

A long, long time. It depends how long you two decided to stay at each locations. 2 - 2 and 1/2 months is a long time. I guess that might be correct. Well good luck and I hope you have a great time travelling across Canada.
Message me @ wongjjackh@yahoo.ca and I'll give you daily weather report! |
