Here's something you might want to try...

I used to frequent Vancouver and always fretted about the cab fare, UNTIL, one sunny afternoon I realized LIMOs have a fixed rate, and it's actually CHEAPER to take one than it is to pay a cab in all that traffic.

Depending on the time of day, and the day of the week, you can probably snag a limo for 50 or less, but a cab stuck in traffic could easily cost you 75, depending on whether they've got ceilings on fares now or not. That much I don't know...

Just a little tidbit of info you might like to keep in the back of your mind when you get there :) Might be fun!

A cab from YVR with cost 30 to 50 dollars depending on time of day you arrive. It is a straight shot once you get out of the airport.

If you are interested in a bus route...
Bus - 424 - Airport/Airport STN to Burrard STN

Then Catch...

Bus - 098 - Burrard STN/Richmond CTR (B-Line) to Seymour St.

From there you can walk to Robson.

In late 2009, you will be able to get there using the new canada line mass transit.

YVR to downtown is minimum $35 up to perhaps $65-75 depending on traffic, weather, driver, etc. If some cabbies pick up a fare at the airport going to a ritzy shopping district, they know they have a sucker, and some will hose you for a big fare and a bigger tip. The recommendation to catch a hotel shuttle bus is a good one, also the transit system, but it can be confusing with the multiple transfers and surly drivers.

One of the airporter shuttle buses will get you there just about as fast and much cheaper--$10 or $15. There are lots of hotels right around the Robson shopping area so just get off closest to where you want to go. The Fairmont(the old Hotel Vancouver) at Georgia and Burrard is a very short block north from Robson.

I spent 25 dollars included tip from downtown to YVR in the evening.

You can take bus to the airport station, then take 98B-Line bus to Burrard station.
Robson street is there.

I usually end up taking a cab to and fro instead of the cheaper transit. If you're not too encumbered that a good option.

that being said, two weeks ago I took a cab from gastown to the airport in rush hour and it was 30 even. Everytime in any direction (at least 6 times now) it's about 30.

I say take a limo from the airport. five bucks more and well worth it.
