If you are here visiting at the time and YOU haven't planned to deliver Canada has what is known as a "good samaritan" clause in the Health act. No Hospital can refuse you treatment because of the inability to pay as we have socialized medicine across the board.
If you're coming here just to have a baby to get rights to abode by birth of your child Immigration will be highly suspicious of your visit to Canada. |

well when I was in hospital I knew that they will take you but also ask for a credit card if you do not have a credit card they take your info and bill you ..it's true though when your coming in and immigration sees your pregnant they will be suspicious that you are having a baby for sole purpose of the baby obtaining citizenship.
What I suggest is before you come get insurance from where you are so that you can also show immigration the infomration that you are covered |

it will cost thousands, and travel insurance will not cover a birth either
just because a baby is born in canada the parents will not be allowed to stay in canada
immigration will be very suspicious of a woman entering the country near her due time |

Recently there were two cases in Manitoba where women gave birth to children and they were not covered by any provincial health plan. (their citizenship papers were not done up yet to make them eligible) One person was charged $10,000 and the other $20,000. Obviously it depends on your childbirth and what happens during it.
Be safe for you and your child and get private health insurance. You do not want the joy of giving birth tainted with the sorrow of heavy debt. |

I have googled it, and have come across articles where the father is a Canadian citizen, while the mother is not. They are looking at $3700 per day for Hospital stay, not including the Doctor's fees, fees for any medication given to mother and baby after birth, costs of lab work, rental of Delivery suite, as well as any costs relating to baby having to be put under lights for jaundice or on any life sustaining equipment. These are fees if ONE parent is Canadian. If you are both not, I suspect they will be more. You will not be turned away from the Hospital, but they will need to verify your address, work information, phone number and others. You could however be turned away right at the border. It is unsafe for a women to fly during last months pf pregnancy, and most customs at Airports will not allow you. If you are driving over, and "lie" to customs officials about your length and purpose of stay you can be charged under the Safe Borders Act as well. You may also not be permitted to leave the country if your hospital bills have not been paid. These are necessary steps to insure that Canadian residents do not have to pay for these services in our own country. |

Call a midwife. When I was at mine, I over heard the receptionist telling a women on the phone that a midwife birth, at home, is covered for anyone, but a hospital birth is about $3000, with the midwife covered for you. I don't think a hospital will turn you away, but they'll charge you for it. |
