It's a graduated licensing system, so there is a written portion, and 2 driving portions.
It is definitely 16 for the written step. if/when you pass, you will get a g1. If you read through the booklet, you are pretty much guaranteed to pass as long as you're not brain dead. Now you're elligible to drive, as long as someone who has had a G license for 5 years is in the passenger seat.
Afterwards, you can register for your g2 a year after you have written the test, or 8 months after if you sign up for driving school. When you pass the first road test, you can drive on your own!
Unless you pass the G test within 5 years of writing the g1 test however, your g2 license will expire. I believe you can take the g test 1 year after you get your g2, so all in all, you'd get yoru full license when you're 18, but you can start driving when you're 16. kapeesh? |

16 for your G1, you can't drive on highways.
Then you can get your G2 eight months after that if you take driver's ed, or 12 months after if you don't. It allows you to go on highways.
You must have your G2 for 1 year before you can get your final G license. |

In Ontario we have a Graduated Licensing system here.
To get your G1 or 'Learner's Permit' you must be 16 years old. The G1 has restrictions:
No alcohol level
You must always be driving with someone in the passenger's seat who has at least 4 years or more driving experience, is a fully 'G' Licensed driver.
You are not allowed to drive on highways where speed exceeds 80 km/h
You are not allowed to drive between the hours of 12 am and 5 am (I think that's the time)
To get your G1 you have to write a written test. In order to move on to your G2, you must have had your G1 for one year or 8 months (if you've taken a Driver's training program)
After the 1 year or 8 months you are able to take your G1 exit test, which is a road test. If you pass the road test you will move onto the next level and have your G2
With a G2 you are not allowed to have alcohol in your system
You are allowed to drive alone
You are allowed to drive on major high ways with speeds exceeding 80 km/h
From 12 am to 5 am, if you are 19 and under, you are only allowed to carry one other passenger 19 and under
After the first six months or until the driver earns a G license or turns 20, they may carry up to three passengers under 19.
This restriction doesn't apply if there is a full licensed 'G' class driver in the front seat, or if the people under 19 are immediate family members.
After 1 year and no less, of having your G2, you may go for your G2 exit test. This is a road test and once you have passed you will receive your 'G' license and will now be a 'fully licensed driver' in Ontario. |

16 to get your G1. |

In a nutshell, you must be 16.
If you take a driver's education course then you can try for your G2 by taking the road test 8 months after you get your G1.
If you do not take a driver's ed course, you must wait a full year after your G1 to try for your G2.
Then to get your G, you have to wait yet another year after your G2 to try for it. |

u have to be 16 to start driving in Ontario.
its a 2 part licencing system so it will take u a couple of years to complete. plus u have to take driving lessons from a qualified instructor.
Basically....your G1 is kind of like your permit but u can't drive on 400 series highways plus u need some one in the car with u that has 5 years or more driving experience. u can't drive between 12 midnight and 5am.
your G2 is your complete licence. but there are still some rules and restrictions for a few months after u get it.
check out the ministry of transportation web site that will tell u all about it. |
