How safe is Montreal?

I have lived in Montreal all my life, its a very safe city. I often go out on my own downtown late at night and i've always been safe. There are certain places downtown that are a bit sketchy to go to really late at night, like 2-3 in the morning, but other than that you should be fine with your friend.

Clubbing wise the best palces to go are Light Ultraclub, Seven, Tribe Hyperclub, Opera and 1234. Restaurants: The Keg, 3 Amigos, Shwartz (amazing smoked meat!), Le Pimont Rouge and for homemade greek food Marvins is amazing. For shopping, nothing is better than downtown. We have the eaton center, place trust montreal, and a lot of other underground malls downtown.

Montreal is a certainly a safe city to be in. just keep away from certain spots like
Ste Catherine st between atwater and guy.
East of St. Laurent st.

Montreal is a large city and that comes with a certain amount of crime and well crappy down and out areas like all major cities. Best advise is to use your best judgment if you don't like the look of an area don't go there. As cities go it is as safe as most large cities in Canada which means they are quite safe by American standards.

i live in montreal, the downtown around the old port is in good shape nicely maintained, but i can spot a tourist from a mile a way.but theirs lots of cops in busy areas. downtown us were all the clubs are and where u can hang out and stuff. but to be honest some places i dont like going to, not to scare u but its reality, dont worry bout it

it is a very safe city, except a few sketchy areas (plamondon, uptown, st catherine at night, guy-concordia)

Yes, it is very safe. I have been there several times! For two women, absolutely! If you stay down town you could walk to stores near by or take a taxi. Depending on where you are there is lots of shopping and restaurants. No worries though, you will be fine!!!
