By LAND or SEA, you can still get into Canada and back to the US afterwards using just a birth certificate and driver's license. That will be the case until at least June 2008 as they extended the deadline for passports again. (All you need is proof of citizenship and a valid photo ID)

As for "unsecured" parts of the border, there are several areas that are wooded, span waterways such as rivers or lakes, or even go straight through a town where crossing the border means walking through someone's backyard.

However, it is important to remember that it is illegal to enter EITHER Canada or USA if you cross at any point that is NOT one of the legal ports of entry, no matter if you are a US or Canadian citizen. (There are 326 ports of entry to the USA, and 22 of those are along the US-Canada border. )

Crossing illegally will usually mean a fine and expulsion from the country, with a five year ban before you can cross legally again. If this is not your first time doing it or you are caught bringing "stuff" across, you can be charged with smuggling or some other serios crime, and could face jail time.

Your drivers license will do until the first of the year, after that you will need a passport to GET BACK INTO the U.S. Just be sure that you don't have any serious traffic violations on your record. Traffic accidents can prevent you from being allowed into Canada as certain ones are considered FELONIES there (usually if they involve injury to others).

From what I gather, from border patrol and other people who were completely useless you still only need your drivers license and birth certif, till mid summer!! No I think they watch the borders quite well these days!! Unless you swim the Detroit river to Windsor, you will surly smell bad but you might make it!!

No not every car gets checked unless they are suspicious of something!! WHAT are you planning on doing dude?

By driving you can still get in with a driver's license and birth certificate until the new year. There are unsecured parts of the border, but they are regularly patrolled on both sides, and you'd be in a heap of trouble if you don't use an official border crossing and get caught.

Not every car gets checked, they keep an eye out for suspicious activity (ie nervousness), and also pull over random vehicles to be searched. They also run your license plates, so be warned.

You should be able to get into Canada without a passport. As far as the unsecured border, can you swim, there are several lakes that you could swim across.

You can take a cruise ship to Alaska and you will not need a passport to enter Canada ports or get back on the ship. Otherwise if you take any road you will need a passport.

Pretty soon you are going to need a passport just to go to Wal-Mart, seeing that it is almost completely Chinese.

There are some parts of the border in the wilds along British Columbia, where Big Foot travels back and forth, and I am sure he does not have a drivers license of a passport. You can cross there, through the deep forest.
