I don't know about Canada, but U.S. companies are begging for drivers. If you are already in the U.S. stop by any truck stop and pick up several of the trucker magazines, all of them have ads for drivers.
I would recommend that you pick one of the larger companies that have their own school or will pay your tuition. The schools can be expensive ($3000 to $5000). Larger companies will train you if you sign an agreement to work for them for a period of time. Usually two years. This actually works in your favor because you get to learn how a truck driver lives and you get to meet other drivers and learn about their companies
That is the way I did it and it worked well for me. I've been driving for about fifteen years now.
Good luck. |

There are drivers in the US and Canada that are losing their jobs due to the shortage of freight because of the recession. They are not going to hire a driver from another country over hiring someone who already lives here if a job comes up. Sorry, but you may have to wait a couple years. |

truck driving isn't a skill that will get you in to canada, there are many drivers already |

You have virtually zero chance.
Both Canada and the USA have very strict immigration rules and you certainly need skills that are in demand. There is no shortage of drivers.
Basically the drawbridge is up.

You would have to contact companies that are known to hire international drivers and see if they are accepting applications, I know that a lot of them have stopped this practice for the time being with the way the economy is suffering.
Go into some of the trucking forums/sites and find out which ones other drivers have stated will hire international drivers.
I am sorry I can't give you specific companies at the moment, but I have been out of the loop for a while now, got out of long haul(team)a few years ago. |
