Find all the info you need at
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/faq/index.html#resident
Before coming to Canada
To visit Canada you:
must be healthy. You might need a doctor’s examination;
must respect Canadian laws;
will need a valid passport, proof of who you are or other travel documents;
will need a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV) if you are from one of these countries; and
may need a letter of invitation.
Canada does not pay for hospital or medical services for visitors. Make sure you have health insurance to pay your medical costs before you leave for Canada.
You may not be permitted to enter Canada if you have a criminal conviction, including a conviction for driving while impaired. Find out more about inadmissibility to Canada.
Read important information on the new Advance Passenger Information/Passenger Name Record program (API/PNR).
Contact a Canadian embassy, high commission or consulate for information on what you will need before coming to Canada.
Once you arrive:
An officer will ask you a few short questions when you arrive. To make this go quickly, keep your passport with you and not in your luggage.
The officer will stamp your passport or advise you how long you may stay in Canada. Feel free to ask questions if you are unsure about anything.
After you arrive, you may want to change the conditions of your visit. This is possible in special cases. You must do this before your status as a temporary resident expires. Apply to extend your stay or visit at least 30 days before your visa expires.

I cannot remember the link right now. We are also looking to move to Canada. It is tougher than it sounds. If I can locate the link, I will post it. It will take awhile to get into Canada.

You know, it's not bad here at all. I am American and you definately want all your ducks in a row before you move.
http://cic.gc.ca is a good place to start, you don't need a lawyer the paperwork is straight forward. File now for "out of Country" Permanent Resident, it's faster than "in country" resident. Gather all your documents & yes money because until papers come through, you can't work. Look at where you want to go very carefully. Just remember, it gets harder before it gets easier but in the end it's well worth it. Hope this helps.. Don't pay attention to Marcus's answer because HE doesn't know what he is talking about. Oh Canadian immigration is nothing like US immigration. I had my wife immigrated to US in 2 1/2 months mine to Canada is still in the process after a year. |

it's really the same way a Canadian would do it if trying to get into the USA for the same reasons and time frame |

As a US citizen you shouldn't have a problem should you plan to move/live anywhere north of the border...as long you get clearance from the Dept. Homeland Security first...if you apply now you should have it by the time you're ready for the big move... |

Why would you want to live here? We dont need people from other countries taking our jobs.
why can't you stay down wherer you live right now? besides you'd have to get reschooled before you can work here, Canada is a totaly different country so your best bet is to stay where you are |
