How would you rate the Canadian Health care system?

I know very little about the U.S. system, except that it's very expensive to access. Canada provides universal health care, and only two (I think) provinces actually charge anything for it. Of course, that means we pay for it with our tax money, but it also means low income families are covered. The down-side of free access is that people kind of abuse it. They go to emergency with problems that aren't emergencies, they go to the doctor over things that don't really require a doctor's time and attention. So we have a shortage in services. I live in northern Canada, where we have a chronic shortage of doctors, so you only go when there's actually something wrong with you. But anything we've had to have taken care of that was more serious has been taken care of within a reasonable frame of time. I know some people have had to wait for surgeries, and I can understand why that's frustrating and painful, but I also understand that the system puts those in dire need at the top of the list. Overall, I think Canada has a good system, and it's working hard to keep up with the demands.

People in Canada receive the same medical care and treatment, including priority for emergencies that the uninsured do in the US. Google it and find out how well its working. Its the only way you will find out the truth, dont however read information from the Minister of Healh or Government websites.

Michael Moore has been challenged by a number of journalists and health care providers in Canada. As one person pointed out why did he interview healthy people on the streets? Why didnt he do his interviews in ER waiting rooms where people had been waiting for as long as 7-10 hours to see a doctor? Or talk to people who have been waiting years for surgery?

Until someone has been forced to try and access these services, becomes seriously ill or is taking care of elderly, ill parents, or ill children they have NO idea how bad Medical Care has become in Canada.

People on the street who's experience has been nothing more than seeing a family doctor for an antiobotic have no idea of how bad it is either.
