I'm a US Permanent Resident planning to travel to Toronto, Canada this summer 2007, what are the documents

needed if I travel by air? I plan to stay there for a week before returning to US. Will my physical absence in the US affect my application for US citizenship in the future?

OK, for the last time.

1. You don't need anything special to get into Canada, as a US citizen. Driver's license, some other photo ID is fine.

2. What you DO need is a passport to GET BACK INTO THE USA.

This applies to Americans, no matter where they visit (exception: crossing the border by land (rather than say, by air). But this will change soon, too.

Bottom line: if you are an American an expect to travel abroad (and, yes, Canada is "abroad"!) get a bloody passport.

These are US rules, no-one else's .

PS: you do not say what your citizenship is, do you?
Something to hide?

you may have problems, seeing you are not a U.S. Citizen. check with the Canadian Consulate in the U.S.

There is no question about it, you will need a pass port.

A picture ID

You'll need to contact the IRS and the Canadian embassy or any Canadian consulate for accurate information. Don't accept anything else - it could harm you in the long run if you do.

All you need is a passport with your picture. It's easy. No problems.

It does not matter that you are a Permanent Resident, what matters is your nationality. That is what you are until you become a USC.
You must have your passport, no other document will do.
Check if you need a Visa for Canada.
as for your status in the the USA you must check with the correct department there.
Also Canada is such a great place you will not want to return!

just a passport will do if you are a US citizen
Enjoy your stay.

First, you need a passport.

Second, you need a visa if the country of issue is a Visa required country. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/offices/missions.html

Third, it depends what stage you are in the United States regarding your citizenship. There is a window during which you cannot leave without forfeiting your application. You should check with your local immigration office.

you need to bring a passport with you. mm.... if you are really close to recieving your US citizenship you should leave the country becuase they won't let you back in. So if not then you should just go to Canada.
