I'm considering moving from the UK to Canada - should I go to Vancouver or Toronto? |
I am just interested to know peoples opinions on the two cities.
More information about me - female, 24, gay, work in TV - where would be best. Additional Details Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear. I would go over on a 12month holiday work permit... so I am not to worried about hearing how much I paperwork I need to fill out, as I've already done most of it!! |

El Guapo, you are completely wrong. Toronto has far less violent crimes than Vancouver and far less crime than most cities in the country period. This is true from statistics, I didnt just take an uneducated guess like yourself.
I have lived in both cities and have to say I like Toronto better but only because it suites my lifestyle.
Vancouver is a city about lifestyle and outdoor sports.
Toronto is a big bustling metropolis with tons of stuff to do for everyone which is one thing I can't say for Vancouver.
Considering you are young and it sounds like you want to work in tv, Toronto would be the superior choice, there are many more jobs in television here than in Vancouver as Toronto is Canada's media hub.
Either way, you can't really go wrong as they are the best Canada has to offer. |

First you need to get a visa to let you move to Canada. This can take several years. Contact Canada House in London for details. |

Um, before you start asking about what city in Canada to move to, you need to first see if you even qualify to immigrate here. Read through http://www.cic.gc.ca and see if you are even able to apply. |

That's pretty hilarious that El Guapo mentions gang violence in Toronto when all we hear about Vancouver is the amount of gang related killings and crime in that city. Toronto was ranked lowest crime rate when compared with 27 other cities in the country.http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Crime/2009/04/22/9198046-sun.html
Vancouver's crime rate is more than twice that of Toronto http://www.cbc.ca/canada/toronto/story/2007/07/18/to-crime.html
Vancouver has had over 20 gang related murders already this year.
And as for the other poster who said Toronto is dirty, guess you haven't been to east Vancouver. The Greater Toronto Area has a population of 5 1/2 million, there's going to be pollution with the amount of cars, people and industry in the city.
And Toronto has one of the largest gay pride parades in the world, with over 1.2 million people lining the street. Toronto is known more for it's acceptance than any other city in Canada. Vancouver may have the better scenery but Toronto has more diversity and entertainment. And Toronto is the media capital of Canada too. |

I used to live in Vancouver, moved to Toronto.
I hate toronto.
Vancouver is the kind of place where if you want to go to the mountains to get away from everything or a small cute town its only 45 minutes away. Toronto is just plain dirty. I do not like it one bit.
Vancouver also is more accepting of the gay population, from what I've experienced anyways. |

I'd say Vancouver. It has an Amazing scenery, very clean, temperate climate (unlike Toronto which is way much colder). The city is considered the best in the Americas in official and economic statistics. It reminds me of many amazing places, it has the fjords of Norway, Alps of Switzerland, a developed city between the mountains just like Hong Kong, cherry blossoms everywhere like Japan, a little British flavour, Chinese food everywhere, and it reminds me in too many things with the UK, Australia, NZ, and of course Canada's neighbour USA. |

Toronto is a hell hole, much gang violence, I know people who hate it there. Vancouver is beautiful, laid back, low crime, very tolerant. |
