Hello

I'm going to Canada soon and I'd like to know what your general opinion, as a Canadian, is of British people?

I'm a British female. Just wondering what type of responses I can expect to get when people realise I'm from the UK. Thanks! x

You'll probably get loads of compliments about your accent. There is a lot of British influence here in Canada from the names of our streets, schools, sites. I used to live on a street called King Edward and went to elementary school called Victoria Albert.

Some of my impressions of British people are

- only knows the sport of Futbol and nothing else
- always have biscuits and tea
- owns a set of fancy tea silverware
- likes to always eat fish & chips

I hate to admit it...but I have this impression that Brits (not all but a handful) are not friendly...ie Simon Cowell, that lady on The Weakest Link, Gordon Ramsay, Naomi Campbell, people working at LHR airport

You may hear "you have a sexy accent" or something but other then that...come on over and enjoy your stay.

Many Canadians have British ancestry. Many of our towns and provinces were named after British Royalty - Victoria in British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, Alberta, Nova Scotia. Many of us have old British customs - Yorkshire Pudding & Christmas Crackers are both popular at our house.

Plus most people love the accent.

We like you!

We see your accent as superior and soothing to listen to, a more naturally friendly tone. Those who speak with your accent are seen as wealthy and almost pristine. As long as you aren't fussy, we receive you well.

For the most part, You will get a good response, you'll feel welcome, and you'll enjoy your time. ( A true canadian will smile and be friendly with you immediatley, we will go out of our way to help people we see that need help)

Where are you planning on visiting? a lot of provinces are very different from eachother:)

We love you! I personally love Brits. Expect inane questions. Like the kind you would ask someone who was in the uk from Canada. And the "I love your accent thing"
Enjoy your time here!

We love the British!

I have always found the presence of British people so "reassuring" and just very very comfortable.

It won't be like going to the USA, where everyone would make a big deal about the fact that you are British. In Canada, we treat the British like family... actually, perhaps better.

God Bless the United Empire!

i agree with what most other people said, except the part about the accent, because i personally hate it, but most people will disagree with me. also, if you are going to banff/whistler (ski towns), there are loads of brits so you won't stand out at all.
