It's impossible to say which one is better and anyone who says one is better than the other is partisan or the city they chose suits them better so I will try to be as objective as possible.
I have lived in both cities and I personally prefer Toronto because it suits my lifestyle, its more of a metropolitan city with something for everyone. Toronto is the financial, cultural, and sports capital of Canada, so if you like pro sports, any culture ,concerts, theatre and amazing restaurants than Toronto is your place.
Vancouver is a lot less about business and more about lifestyle. It's a very beautiful city surrounded by mountains and right at the ocean. Some of the best skiing in the world within an hours drive and . They have a milder winter and summer making it ideal for outdoor activity.
Both are the best Canada has to offer as far as cities so IMHO you cant go wrong with either.
Vancouver's crime rate is quite a bit worse than Toronto's as Toronto is the safest large city in north america according to 2007 statistics. |

Toronto all the way.
Vancouver is nice too, but I like Toronto better.
Better weather, and even Ottawa is Canada's capital, everything always happens in Toronto. |

I'm from Toronto and it is awesome but I also like Vancouver.
If you want warmer winters with lots of rain, go Vancouver.
If you don't mind cold winters and really hot summers go Toronto. |

They are quite different, and it's impossible to say which one is better. It's the matter of preference really... If you want to live in a big city and "not to miss a bit" (e.g. have stuff available 24/7, have something interesting going on every day) - Toronto is your choice. If the good climate and calm weather are more important for you - go for Vancouver.
Also it depends on industry you are going to work for, and how much money you are willing to spend on living costs (surprisingly Toronto is cheaper than Vancouver when it comes to the costs of real estate or rent). |
