I'm moving from Ontario to Vancouver, BC. I'm 24 and my girlfriend is 22.What's the best neighbourhood for us?

We're both bartenders so a neighbouhood with lots of hip bars would be good. I've visited Vancouver once, and I know that Hastings is not a place I'd like to live. Other than that, I'm open to any suggestions. Thanks!

Kitsilano is a great place to live, very lively with lots of bars if I remember correctly. I think the rentals may be a bit lower than the west end. You may want to try south of W. 4th though. I bet the rents drop a bit as you go south, simply because 4th is such a major street.

west end or kitsilano

anything you can afford - it is a costly city

The place for the two of you to live is the West End. The landlord in the West End face very tough competition because there are thousands of apartments for rent.
A lot of the buildings are getting old and you can find an apartment for the same rent that you would pay in areas suggested by the other answerers.

My adivce to you is avoid East Hastings. I believe their are a lot of homeless people and gangsters in that area. Its a problem for residence and the tourists.

Delta, Surrey are the best municipalities to stay in that area.

Sounds as though you should aim at the West End or Yaletown (both close to the heart of the city). Only trouble is, they're fairly pricey. If that's a problem, you might want to look for accommodation in Burnaby, out around Central Park area, and commute via the Sky Train.

Mrs. Foster is a little confused. Hastings runs east and west, so there isn't anything east of hastings.
If you go along hastings to the Renfrew area, you're okay, and the commute from there to downwtown is an easy one.

main street area is cheap and edgey.
kits is plush and expensive.
burnaby is a wasteland.
richmond is going to sink in the next big earthquake.

Its pretty expensive for two people in their twenties to live in downtown vancouver (the west end or yale town or on robson). I would suggest false creek or kits. The farther out you go the cheaper. If you both work as bartenders, maybe think about resort towns such as whistler, banff or kelowna?

I would suggest Marpole or Steveston. Both are reasonably priced areas. Marpole is near the airport, Steveston is a little fishing village near Richmond. Both are easy to commute from and have their own neighbourhoods.

I've heard that anything East of Hastings is bad as well...It's an expensive city- maybe try Burnaby or one of the suburbs?
