Such a subjective question. People will only answer with the cities that they know personally (as I will right now):
I've lived in St. John's (Newfoundland), Toronto (Ontario), and Red Deer (Alberta).
Of the three, I'd recommend Red Deer as a good city. It's a planned city, easy to get around, not too big, nice schools, and quite safe. Downside is it gets EXTREMELY cold in the winter.
Toronto would be the least safe city as it's the largest and the weather is also very cold in the winter.
St. John's is my hometown. Very safe (crime is almost non-existent in Newfoundland), excellent schools. The weather isn't as cold as the rest of Canada (excluding the west coast, of course) but there is a lot of snow and rain. Employment isn't very good and Newfoundland is an island so it doesn't lend to travel to other parts of Canada (though travelling around the island itself is an adventure in itself). |

kitchener ontario is the worlds 5th fastest growing city...it has lots of developemnt (especially in the last 5 years) and housing is relatively cheap.. RIM (blackberry company) has helped put of alot jobs in the kitchener waterloo area and its only a 60-70 mins drive from downtown Toronto...in terms of weather, its the same as Michigan in the USA and safety in school is typicaly better in Canadian schools. There are not a lot of "ghettos" in Canada (few exceptions) because the Canadian goverments (provincial, federal, and municipal) have regualtions that ensure that expensive and non-expensive housing ratios are the same in every neighbourhood. So it ensures that higher-income families are not seperated from lower-income famalies...its diversity...and thats what Canada is all about, diversity and multi-culturism. |

Saskatoon, Sk is a pretty sweet city! the weather is alright you get used to it, the rent is low and taxes are gettin lower, its growing, the river is beautiful, the crime is like any city of this size but i never hear of it, its not to big and its not to small with a population of around 240,000, there are jobs everywhere you look, not to sure about the education but the the University is one of the best in the country, im not from here orginally im 19 and from southern Saskatchewan, and i didnt really care to much about the province of Saskatchewan until I moved to Saskatoon, theres always something going on, and the bars/clubs are almost always a good time, if your not into the bar sceen there so much more to do, like going to the beach, golfing, and more, theres just so much good to say about the place and all my friends agree that live here too.
check out this site of Saskatoon if you want more info: http://www.saskatoon.ca/
Good LUCK!

As per your other question, Guelph is a fine city. It's a university town, it's clean and has a low crime rate. The weather is as good as you'll find anywhere in Canada. The schools are excellent. If you like big cities choose Toronto, otherwise go to Guelph. |

Every area in Canada will have its ups and downs. British Columbia is gorgeous; but places people have named like Vancouver and Kelowna are EXPENSIVE. Kelowna recently was named for having the most expensive housing market in the COUNTRY. And that included big cities. (in its defense, it is gorgeous!) Alberta is nice; lower sales taxes; but there is a housing shortage right now. It is also expensive. Many families from around here that moved there said that because of the boom; classes are too full. There are a lot of transient workers as well; and crime is getting higher.
Saskatchewan is nice, weather is a big detriment there. It is cold and windy. People are great and down to earth. There arent a lot of jobs there though. Manitoba is what I know best...Brandon Manitoba is really nice. Smaller city, fairly decent jobs and good schools. There is a small university and college there too. There are farm communities surrounding the city, so you get "big city" with "small town" atmosphere. It is cold there though...altho so is most of Canada right now. :)
Ontario is really diverse. In the "Golden Horseshoe"; down around the Great Lakes, there are a lot of big cities. Nice, but you are a number not a person. The rest of Ontario resents this area for their "centre of the universe" attitudes. Welland Ontario is nice and tends to be a warmer place. Again, small college there. Crime isnt bad there either. Not too far from the egos, and close enough to go to a good hockey game. :)
Quebec...not my favourite area. If you speak english...it may be a problem for schooling. I hate to group the Maritimes together; but I will. Great people, great communities. Not a lot of jobs or opportunity though. Schools are okay; but overcrowded in many areas.
Me...I'd move to Brandon. :) (and no, I am not from there) |

Weather in the prairies is awful--I know 'cause I'm living it.
During the long, cold winters, I find a lot of Canadians look to British Columbia with envy... So I suppose I'd recommend BC. I hear it's very expensive to live on the islands, but there ought to be some nice cities on the mainland. |

No question, British Columbia is the best province and the Vancouver area has the best weather, despite our recent snowstorm. The good part is it won't last very long, coupla weeks maybe whereas in the Eastern provinces and the prairies it would be here for four months or longer. |

My warmest recommendation is Kelowna in the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia. Famous for its mild micro-climate which allows wine and peaches to grow, a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains, and a modern, nicely sized town with everything you need, and nothing to annoy you. One of the boom towns in Canada, and for a reason. |
