I'm moving to Toronto in September and was wondering how the Lansdowne and dundas area is? |
I talked to a TTC working thats been working for 30 years there and he said it was a nice area, but then my friend spoke with her sister (who lived in toronto for 9 years) and she said we'd get shot or mugged in that area. We're three 21 year old girls just looking for a safe place to live in toronto, and yes i know all about the suburbs of Toronto, i was born and raised in Pickering and we're looking for something close to downtown. |

Hi, i live in toronto and I can tell you, lansdowne and dundas area is ok.. not that dangerous.. those shootings that have been going on are mostly in the north area of toronto, like north york or scarborough. but if you want a nicer place close to downtown, you can look at dufferin and dundas area. |

If I had someone visiting Toronto, I certainly would not want them to think that the Landsdowne / Dundas area is indicative of the rest of the city.
I grew up in that neighbourhood (many moons ago) and it has steadily gone downhill. The next major street to the south is Queen Street. That intersection holds the distinction for being the only place in the city that I have ever seen the police taking down what appeared to be some hookers, pimps and some otherwise unsavoury characters at gunpoint in broad daylight.
If you want to be closer to downtown, I agree with Chucky. Look for a place in the vicinity of the U of T campus buildings. You will be closer to shopping, subway and local attractions. You may also be safer.
By the way, Chucky... I think you meant Holly Jones. |

I know someone in that area and he has had trouble with his neighbours (I know that can happen anywhere) due to some drug issues. Just be sure to always be aware of your surroundings when you're walking or waiting for the bus. |

For the two people above me do you not remember Polly Jones who was raped, cut up, put into suitcases and found the next morning floating in the lake down by the lakeshore. They did catch the guy. I find that area old and noisy Ive been told by some parents that downtown by the campus is pretty safe. |

I live in the Queen and Landsdowne area (the next main intersection to Dundas and Landsdowne) and it's not all that bad. Sure we have the hookers, drug dealers but if you're not in that lifestyle then you have nothing to worry about. You don't bother them, they don't bother you. I've lived down on this side for two years and have never run in to any problems. I guess it all depends on how you look at it. I personally love it. I live right near the lake. I love all the old buildings around here in Parkdale. There are huge houses all over down here where I live, which I love. The Queen Streetcar runs 24 hrs/day. There's plenty of shopping. Anyways it's no more crime ridden than any other part of the city. |

Hi
I used to live in the Annex.
As in most cities, there are good and bad areas to live.People living in a bad area would tell you there are good areas within there.
With neighbourhoods constantly chaning with the influx of peole, bad areas have become good areas.Yorkville in the 1960's was probably not a good area but now it's tready and high priced.
The best thing to do is to go with your girlfriends and visit the area, familiarize yourself and always exercise due vigilance when coming or going. |

Not a very good area. I would suggest you to live in islinton/bloor area or jane/bloor. Good luck. |

I don't think you'd necessarily get shot or mugged there, but there are better places to be.
As long as you're on the TTC route, you're fine.
I live in High Park with 3 other girls ages 23-25, and we never have any problems with walking alone at night, etc and it take sus 30-45 minutes to get to Queen & Younge on a streetcar in the morning.
Lots of young people live around College, or Bloor & Spadina. I'd stay away from Parkdale and Sherbourne, but everywhere else is pretty decent. |
